He's already tied the record for most consecutive at bats without a hit, he'll have a chance to break the record later on the game.

Chris Davis near hitless streak record

Everyone likes to see records broken. My hat's off to you for stealing big money from a small market, rebuilding team in the AL East.

I thought it was ludicrous when the Orioles resigned him to that contract. Now it is looking even worse. Say what you will about Pujols contract, at least he waited a few years on his new contract before he became a steaming pile. And even then, he is at least league average with bat when healthy.

Davis' contract has to be the biggest albatross of any deal currently in MLB.

Without a doubt.

It's gonna prolong Baltimore's rebuild.

Small market club that isn't known for spending big money, in the same division as the Red Sox and Yankees, they're still early in the rebuilding process.

I'll say biggest albatross deal in sports.

obviously the red sox and yankees will spend money, blue jays aren't terribly run and the coach of the rays is getting things done, it might be top heavy with talent, but a very competitive division.

Baltimore can pack out a winner

What's hurt them is the Nationals coming to town.

If it weren't for oppressive traffic baltimore to DC is a thirty minute trip

The Small Market is a myth.

Baltimore is a high end middle market or a low end big market.
They have a really lopsided TV deal that basically stole all the Nationals TV money as well.
Baltimore essentially gets paid for two teams almost. Local TV money drives baseball and the Os ripped off the Nats.

The Nats did not hurt them. It made them extremely wealthy quite the opposite
That was part of the deal. Baltimore would not allow the Nats into the market, unless the Nats gave up local rights.

It is still in litigation, and the Orioles will likely give a bigger % back to DC...but it will still be a lopsided windfall.

Plus they have a great stadium that is easily accessible to the 8 million or so in the DMV.
Even more important, the 8 million in the DC-MD-VA region is by and away the wealthiest citizens in the country.

They just have been CHEAP not POOR over the years with cheapskate Old Man Angelos.
The two kids are now in charge and they seem to be willing to spend money......but time will tell.

Let's not pretend getting from Northern Virginia to Baltimore is easy

Most of those counties are there.

Most of those counties are there.

Maryland is the wealthiest state in the union. The 5 highly ranked Md counties are are all top 20 counties.
But, MASN collects basic cable money in all those Northern Virginia households as well. SO, it doesn't matter.

The Orioles basically dominate the TV money from the entire region. The Orioles control MASN.
That was the price to pay for the Nationals to get their team. It was a cool bargain that was good for both teams.

The Nationals are happy because they got a tax payer paid stadium and sweetheart development deals in exchange in the 10 blocks around the stadium. They were more interested in real estate development pathways for the Lerner family.

Both franchises made a ton of money because of the unique settlement. It worked really well for both teams.

Sad for Davis, liked him when he was with the Rangers but his history of K's(or really swinging at garbage) should have shown something like this could always be on the horizon.

Three more years at $23m after this season. They likely are going to just cut him and eat that money. Or pay 90%+ & hope a team willing to take a chance on a rebound while giving a low minors lottery ticket in return.

I'm guessing they eventually cut him.

Having lived in the Baltimore/DC area for two years it's a pretty distinct separation between the entities. Reason I say that is you see absolute die hard Ravens fans in B More and then in DC it's all Redskins. Now...yes the Nats are much newer and thus there is some bleedover in the DC area but I don't see a lot of folks fighting the traffic to pass DC to go to Baltimore.

Now yes TV money is a totally different deal

But ultimately i do agree that Baltimore is more a medium market
