I'd really hate to see the foursome broken up.

I thought this was some kind of joke that I just didn't get. Only reason I didn't respond sooner. Kansas has something like 26 straight tournament appearances and 12 straight conference titles. Who are you gonna replace them with that has that kiND of consistency. Can't be Tar Heels, Duke isn't going to want them there as a conference rival. Gonzaga and Wisconsin both have long tournament streaks, but it's the Champions classic, so they're out. Arizona is good now, but it's not supposed to be a one year thing. Where Kansas has won 12 conference championships out of the last 12, Arizona has won what, 2?

Same conference as Duke, and their biggest rival. They're not gonna want to play this early, lend prestige to each other by playing, and most importantly they don't want to share the recruiting opportunity. It's Duke or UNC, and I think they have the right team already.

So it can't be a B1G team, can't be ACC, and can't be SEC. No team from the Big 12 would make any sense at all if you're kicking out Kansas. So there isn't a lot of choices left.

The Champions Classic is a one-of-a-kind event - deemed so "right" that it was (surprisingly enough) renewed intact two years ago.
It'd be wonderful if it was renewed (intact) again next year for another 3-year run.
