Hawkeye,

The only thing that surprises me with the preseason rankings is:
1. Northwestern wasn't in the top 25
2. Minnesota is too low. I would probably flip Purdue with Minnesota.

I'm ready to see the Hawks make the climb up. Get by No. Illinois and look out.

yay for Hoops being positive! I was a bit surprised Iowa State is ranked that high to be honest...basically shows our schedule is tough cause everyone but the FBS teams and Minnesota is ranked ahead of us, so they should beat us, we now have an excuse if we lose a lot, hahaha

unsurprisingly, CBS bowl predictions leaves Iowa out of the bowl picture as well...

CBS knows nothing about college football. When their top 2 sportswriters are still, Doyle and Dodd, nothing they say should be credible.

The team could very well be 6-0 going into Columbus.. Kind of reminds me of 05'? I think that was the year off the top of my head anyway. The team actually had some what high expectations and came down to earth after that game.

It's obviously completely flipped this year, but I think the team has quite a few players that will surprise this year.. 8/9 wins is certainly possible w/ how down the big10 is imo.

They are beefing up staff on 247 sports. They want that site to compete directly with Rivals and Scout. So you will see team pages with actual coverage instead of just links to stories for all schools.

bowl predictions were by Jerry Palm...who as we know is a total idiot, just takes the rankings and puts them in order, never played the game in his life so he got a stats degree and this is his contribution to sports...he might be a tiddley wink champion though. Not sure who did the rankings, just says by Eye on football or some silly thing like that...most likely some intern who can type and get paper cuts

When Iowa finishes 10-2..... They will be in the top 15.

:bullshit::lol::laugh3:

Who is your QB? Who is going to be your top WR? Big Fiedo can't do it all by his lonesome. What about that defense? How about your O-line?

This is why Iowa is ranked 67th overall. This will be a rebuilding year for y'all and that actually serves the program quite well. The Hawkeyes have gone through a ton of adversity the past 3 years and all those guys are gone. Time to get back to black-n-blue Hawkeye football. If you go 6-6 this year, I would consider that a successful season and plenty to build off of. Hopefully, for your sake, Ferentz doesn't get canned like Tuberville did a few years ago at Auburn.

Every year same old shit.

UofM gets over ranked. 10 starters returning, no unit recognized nationally as a top 5 unit, LB, OL, DBs. And every year Iowa gets between 8-9 wins, sometimes 10.

As a UofM fan I just enjoy when we don't have to travel to Iowa.

QB, DLine and WR are the positions we need to worry about...if they perform well we have a decent shot at having a good season...are Oline will be good so that helps the QB and the plethora of RBs we have...if KMM steps up and becomes a leader with the WRs they'll be decent and just plan on our LBs having a shit ton of tackles

Most disgusting KF stat of his Iowa career, 6 and 8 against the CLOWNS.

1999 - 1 and 10, Iowa State wins 17 to 10. Really..Iowa sucked and it was still a 7 point game
2000 - 3 and 9, Iowa State wins 24 to 14. Again..see 1999
2001 - 7 and 5, Iowa State wins 17 to 14. Clowns 3 game winning streak.
2002 - 11 and 2, Iowa State's 4th straight win keeps us out of National Title Picture winning 36 to 31
2003 - 10 and 3, Iowa pummels State 40 to 21
2004 - 10 and 2, Iowa wins 17 to 10
2005 - 7 and 5, Clowns kick our ass 23 to 3
2006 - 6 and 7, Iowa wins 27 to 17
2007 - 6 and 6, State wins 15 to 13
2008 - 9 and 4, Iowa wins 17 to 5
2009 - 11 and 2, Iowa smokes the Clowns 35 to 3
2010 - 8 and 5, Iowa handles the Clowns 35 to 7
2011 - 7 and 6, Double OT lose 44 to 41(Probably Iowa States best team fielded against Hawks)
2012 - 4 and 8, Clowns win 9 to 6.

If Ferentz demanded zero losses to Iowa State, it would set the tables for a better season. 2002 will always be the year remembered as the year Iowa State kept Iowa out of the National Title picture. Remember that team would have probably beat Ohio State who ended up playing for the title.

F the clowns. Bring them on this year...time to right the ship and it all starts with a smack down in Trice.

I don't think losing to ISU in 2002 mattered much in the big picture...yeah it sucked balls but there was no way we jump an undefeated Ohio State and we still get throttled by USC. It would have made for a great debate considering Ohio State and Iowa didn't play that year

The year that pissed me off most was 2011...coming off a great 2010 and Americanzi playing well that year there is no reason we shouldn't have done something...never should have lost to Arizona, fucking fake punt against Wisconsin and the TP 4th and 9/10/11 run (whatever it was) pissed me off. We never lose the last two if we beat OHio State...that was our year

I don't know, I see Michigan as a dangerous team this year cause they are similar to Iowa in we don't know exactly how they will play. The experience will help though, still the best fight song in the country if you ask me. You always know who is playing when you hear Hail to the Victors...no matter what I am excited to get this season started Labor Day weekend.

gengljer,

I totally agree with you here. I just wish KF would actually coach like this is a rivalry game. A game that - I feel anyway - Iowa should NEVER lose. And if they do, the loss happens once every (roughly) 15 years. A game where a 20-point margin of victory for Iowa is considered a close game because Iowa St played a good game.

Look at the offensive point production by Iowa in those games...its horrible! I guess that I am spoiled from the Fry Era...putting up 60+ a year against ISU looked good...

I wonder though, has ISU gotten a lot better and evened the playing field or has Iowa just not really given this game any thought? That is why I hate it really, I don't feel it needs to be played, see no reason to have this game or play it or anything. Similar to FCS games, this game means nothing to Iowa at all, you win you are supposed to, you lose and its an upset. There is absolutely no benefit to this game nor FCS games at all.

Hawkeye,

I think ISU has gotten better. Paul Rhoads reminds me of Dan McCarney. Once his feet hit the ground in the morning, McCarney was ready to compete and rip your head off in the process. I think Rhoads fits that same mode. Rhoads takes risks during game because he has to in order to win. I don't believe that ISU is able to win 8+ games per season. Hitting 7 wins + their bowl game is about as good as it's going to get for ISU.

KF doesn't take many risks at all and blames his players for not executing the plays that were called. So, maybe Iowa has regressed under KF for this game (and a few other opponents). We all know that KF isn't going to jump out of a cannon - he'll walk out - during games for every good/bad play. The camera does a great job of watching KF chew his gum, write on his pad of paper, or throw his gum out...that's the level of excite that KF exhibits on game day. Oh, I forgot his whistle-face-look, and the clapping of his hands. I believe that Iowa is built to win 8-9 games per year + their bowl game. Unfortunately, Head KF is going to have to unleash his coaches and players to accomplish that win total.

I firmly believe the game is good for the state of Iowa as a whole. These are the only games in town on a weekly basis. While I also believe Iowa has everything to lose and nothing to gain...the game must continue. If I could, I would make the Iowa-ISU game the last game of the regular season for both teams!

I'm on board with not scheduling FCS opponents! Doing that hurts Iowa more than the ISU game.

Hawkeye,

I forgot to add that Rhoads signed a couple of JUCOs (I think Iowa Western) that should be really good. Rodney Coe and Aaron Wimberly. Coe never made it on Iowa's campus and Wimberly was a sign-and-send courtesy of Nick Saban. Nick never brought Wimberly back though. Saban has been sending several players up to Iowa Western - probably more of an effort to keep them off of other SEC programs.

For some reason, I thought Rhoads signed more than Coe and Wimberly from Iowa Western????? I think Wimberly is really good (and fast)...but who knows at this point.

Time will tell.
