I would not carry anything expensive. Carry weapons get knocked around, dropped, stuffed in glove boxes, center consoles, door panels, shot a ton at the range, etc... Get something solid, decent, call it a day.

carry weapons get confiscated by the police (sometimes for a very long duration) if you get into an incident where you have to defend yourself with your firearm....even if it is a clean shoot.
Never carry your best/costly firearms... instead carry something inexpensive and reliable.
I'm not a 1911 aficionado, but I've heard that both Rock Island Armory and EAA make very good budget friendly 1911's.
Speaking of EAA..... my nephew has a budget friendly EAA Windicator .357 Magnum 4" revolver (produced by Germany's Weihrauch) as his primary carry firearm, and it is fantastic.
