Do the Leafs not hold Boston's 1st round pick from the Kaberle deal? If so then I would assume Burke is actually (reluctantly from the sounds of it) cheering for Vancouver to win the Cup. Not a huge difference but if Vancouver wins the Leafs get the 29th pick and if the Bruins win they get 30th.

Doesn't matter. Only a matter of time before Burkie trades that pick for some magic beans.

they have every right to be fuming. if noone sees the wrong in this then I suppose it matches the lack of knowledge the league actually runs with.

I is on the favored side of this whole ordeal and I think it is utter bullshit as well. This league looks like even more of a joke with what just went down than before with having a Father being the disciplinary head figure.

Dont get me wrong, I believe the punishment is just, the means of coming to a decision are 110% incorrect.

Even as a Bruins fan I can see a problem with this.

I have a friend at work who follows the Pens somewhat. Not a diehard fan, more of a casual fan, but he always has said to me the NHL seems to be run like the WWE.

More and more i can't help but agree with him.

Hm...

I don't see any issues with potential conflicts of interest, but allowing Brian Burke to be involved in a decision? Foolish.

well he was fired by the canucks and was part of the Gagliardi/Beedie ownership group that sued the current canucks ownership group for control of the franchise plus as Leafs GM, he was fined for tampering when the Sedins were going to be UFA's ... had a sobbing session when he wasnt invited to the Trevor Linden retirement ceremony

but of course noone can question Burkes integrity

no axe to grind there at all

Honestly, conflict of interest or not, I would be happier with Colin Campbell right now. This guy is clueless and chicken shit. First, the totally lame "inconclusive evidence" cop-out on Burrows when it would have been easy to say "he bit him and we fined him and warned both teams". A question for B's fans, would that not at least have been an answer that you could live with even if you still wanted the 1 game?
Now he can't even just give a suspension using his own judgment. My advice to him would be, just make a damn decision and live with the outcome or friggin resign. I would be fine with the suspension even though it is a knee jerk reaction based on the result but this bush league stuff is just stupid. And I would feel the same if it was say Ference on Kesler or something. Suspend the guy and live with it and move on.

Was I the only that read the Burke had nothing to do with the suspension itself, just the procedure? If it was only a matter of asking the procedure, I don't really see a problem with it, as long as Burke had no input on the suspension itself. Which is what I read.

Since Murphy can't talk to Colon Campbell about anything to do with this, and Burke was in charge before Campbell, is it really a big deal to ask about procedure?
