Future Flyer Cup-Winner
The Flyers host the Canes for the second of three meetings this year. Both teams are coming off extended games on Thursday - the Canes defeated the Senators in overtime, while the Flyers lost to Florida in a shootout. Both Cam Ward and Ilya Bryzgalov were great for their respective teams except for the shootout, where neither of the two made a save. The Flyers are 4-6-1 and could really use two more points to climb back into the race, but they need to start scoring, as they are tied for last in the East in goals per game. The Canes are 5-4-0 and in 8th place in the confernce by virtue of games played.
Flyers are missing Hartnell and Mezaros - but some line shuffling is in order, because Simmonds is back. Wonder what they'll do with McGinn, who in his rookie season is playing pretty well; I'd put him with Sestito so he could see how a real NHL player scores goals (DON'T ACTUALLY DO THIS). Philly starts Bryz in net.
The Canes are missing Tuomo Ruutu (hip), presumably from hip-checking some unfortunate idiot who asked how to spell his name for the millionth time. Until last game, Alexander Semin's shot was also missing. Ward is the likely (though unconfirmed) starter.
Final interesting fact - Philly is top 5 in penalty minutes for and against, while Carolina is bottom 5 in both those statistics. We'll see which team bucks the trend today. Good luck to both teams, and LET'S GO FLYERS!
