Depending on how much $ he wants, he could be a quality back up for someone

Yeah someone I am guessing will take a shot at him.

People were suggesting the Patriots (but who aren't the Patriots "linked" too)

Alex seems to be having a hard time dealing with the thought of retirement. He's made almost $200 million in his career and proved everyone wrong with his comeback. Not sure his motivation at this point.

At this point, he should be considering a career as a QB coach.

Backup QB for the Browns is a great fit. Probably could backup almost anywhere. If he is starting somewhere then he is a bridge QB to someone like Fields or Lance but Im not sure that role will be there for him.

If a QB gets injured during the season, I think someone might trade a late round pick for him, though, so he is worth it for almost any roster.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Washington will part ways with Alex Smith.

Smith, 36, is owed $26.2 million in 2021. Releasing him before June 1 would save Washington $14.7 million against the salary cap. The 2020 Comeback Player of the Year came back from a two-year leg injury to start six games for the Football Team after starting the season as a third stringer. Smith said recently that he knew Ron Rivera's coaching staff "didn’t want me there, didn’t want me to be a part of it, didn’t want me to be on the team, the roster, didn’t want to give me a chance." Apparently he was right. Jaguars Report's John Shipley said a reunion between Smith and Urban Meyer, his coach at Utah, would make sense. In February, Washington signed Taylor Heinicke -- who impressed in a playoff start against Tampa -- to a two-year deal. Heinicke, 27, will have a shot at the starting job in 2021 even when Washington brings in signal callers via the draft and free agency.

If he could pass the physical, and you could get him at a reasonable price, He would be a good mentor to one of this year's new QB crop. Could easily start the season and then turn it over to the rookie when he is ready. If Carolina gets rid of Bridgewater and drafts a new QB I would be happy to have him on the team at the right price.

I wouldn't mind taking a flier on the Patriots with him either.. Sure he is "brittle" but the Pats OL is pretty solid and I am sure BB would get him cheap. Assuming Smith would even consider New England
