Oops, I was supposed to have written "If Maryland doesn't have to pay an Exit Fee."

I think you are missing the pt or I am misunderstanding you. When Maryland left the ACC had a 50mm exit fee. ACC and BIG 12 have both signed a grant of rights. Exit fees are almost always negotiated down. GOR is a different animal. That has not been tested in the NCAA. To keep it simple there are arguments that could work against that, but that has not been tested. Testing it is also a different set of equations. An exit fee you risk 50mm and can get fined 0. GOR rights is 10 years of TV revenue, but you are worthless to the acquiring conference if your appeal doesnt work. Much higher stakes. I just do not think the Maryland case will be applicable to anyone in the Big 12 or the ACC, as it is entirely different in structure.

I wrote, "This opens up a possible raid of the ACC."
#1 it wouldn't be just the Big 12. It would probably have to be started by the Big Ten and the SEC, but the Big 12 could get one of the teams in Florida, North Carolina and maybe the remaining teams that made up the ACC. This assumes that the ACC gets so cobbled up that it ceases to exist as a conference. Merely a possibility.

The Big 12 will not entertain expansion until one of two things happen.
#1 The Big 12 gets screwed with a spot in the football playoffs, or
#2 Maryland doesn't have to pay an Exit Fee. This opens up a possible raid of the ACC.

When their current TV deal is done I'm sure they will entertain going to 12 and adding a championship game. The biggest obstacle the conference has is the inability to form a conference network like the B1G, PAC and now (even though you and Coda said it would never happen) the SEC.

If SEC schools get a huge windfall from the network and a gap forms between the Big 12 schools and the rest of large conferences (exception of Texas and the LHN) then there is going to be a lot of pressure to expand into other markets and for a network deal.

I did not say it would not happen, but I thought UK, Florida, and Bama may not be happy with a network and push back. They were making more prior to the network. Right now Texas is going to be paid more than anyone for quite awhile. Big 12 earned the most last yr, but that will change soon. I do think it is socialism and unnecessary to share the teir 3 revenue. Just makes little sense that Vandy and MSU can make the most TV revenue in the SEC and spend little on the program. When does subsidizing the weak become unfair? One thing if it was a requirement to invest a minimum amount of the TV money back into the program, but that isnt discussed.

AS for the Big 12, I think it is a run-off conference. Eventually it gets swallowed. Just not enough outside of Texas to really sustain the conference long term.

IIRC, all of the Big 12 schools have networks of one sort or another and AFAIR each of them is getting at least $8 million/year, which is more than the BTN is currently distributing to its' members. The last figure I read was less than $6 million/year.

Let's Big 12 schools are getting $23 million. The ACC $20.8 million and the SEC $20.9 million.
ACC distributed record $291.7 million in total revenue for 2013-14 fiscal year - ESPN

The Big Ten distributed $25.9 million to schools except for Nebraska and Penn State, however that include revenues from the BTN.

Big Ten still leads leagues in college sports revenue | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Since Tier 3 revenue is not distributed by the Big 12. Most Big 12 schools received $30+ million, courtesy of their Tier 3 networks. Yep, this conference sucks, to clarify it sucks cash from media outlets for its' schools.

2014 numbers aren't out for the Pac yet, but in 2013 they did $334mm in revenue, most of any conference.

Just so you know, IMG has relationships with many schools. IMG signed a contract with Nebraska in 2008 that runs through 2021. IMG signed a contract with Texas and ESPN, called the LHN contract

From that contract Nebraska is getting over 8.5 million per year from IMG.

KU signed a deal with IMG until 2022 for 86 million. Michigan's contract is the same as Kansas's with IMG, 86 million. Ohio state is making nearly 10 million from IMG.

1. It will be picked up by all the major service providers before kick off no way Direct TV, Charter and the others are simply going to concede the South to other providers. If they don't buy stock in Dish because it will double in size overnight.

2. Clay Travis said it would be worth a billion I just linked his article to yank your chain.

It's gone down pretty much how I expected and it will be a monster hit.

According to Forbes the Big 12 had the highest TV payout. Big 10 was the highest per school when tourney money applied.

They did, but the administration takes a much larger cut than in any other conference

Lot of IMG is royalty money. It gets pretty complicated breaking down exactly what the money is for. 3rd tier revenue is a bit murky

Dish is in the middle of a merger with AT&T. Don't be surprised if those negotiations are delayed. Hard for DTV to write a big check prior to the deal. It could happen, but that would be unusual

Texas has 2 different contracts with IMG. One contract is exclusive and concerns merchandise royalties, Texas tops that list for the 8th straight year.
Texas Longhorns again top merchandise sales list - ESPN

The other contract is with ESPN and IMG College and it concerns the LHN. That contracts brings approximately $12 million or so, with about $3 million in costs and gives UT a net of $9 million or so. That figure has risen every year of operation.

All this talk of how much each school gets, neener neener more than you, its no wonder these kids want to get some of that cash.

Drop the school, pay the players! We need a salary cap. We should let the kids not even go to school. Fuck it, they will be employees anyway, why should they go to school. Do we make the janitor attend class?

Imagine Tim Tebow, he would still be QB of Florida. I bet Florida fans would be on board for that shit. Tebow could sign a multiyear deal, would be epic. We could see private schools who get huge donations go on 3, 4 maybe even 5 game national title streaks, after Tebow retires of course.

Bring on the pay the players!

The free education worth tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, free room and board, and free meals aren't nearly enough. Shabazz said it best. These poor kids are going to bed hungry.
