Bruins' Daniel Paille suspended four games for head shot

Took out Sawada. There was an article in the NY Post saying that the Big Bad Bruins are no more. They responded with three fights in the first 30 seconds and a player getting suspended for going psycho. Sawada is perfectly fine, so I absolutely LOVE the team's reaction. And the suspension is justified. No more cracking skulls, guys.

The Bruins were wonderfully evil in that game.

Not to contradict...but didn't he had a separated shoulder and broken nose?

Uh oh. I read he was fine. I'll double check. Also, if he has a separated shoulder, does that make the head shot more evil? What's the ethics on that? A concussion would make me feel bad, but I don't know where to stand on a resultant shoulder injury.

Pixburgher's right. Took out the guys' shoulder. Paille's response:

"If you look at the play, I'm ahead of him when I hit him, and I felt that I hit his shoulder at that moment. Looking at the replay I felt that he kind of turned towards me so I wouldn't my check. I felt that I hit him in the the shoulder at first."

"I was expecting a suspension for sure, but possibly two games. I was a bit shocked at the amount, but I'll just learn to accept it right now. I hope that Ray is alright. As of right now I heard that he does not have a concussion, which is something that I'm glad he doesn't have."

Team mate Andrew Ference's response:

“It’s a bad hit, right?" said Ference. "You hear it from every player after they do it, they feel bad, and same thing, I talked to Danny [Paille] and he feels bad.

“You can’t be a hypocrite about it, though. I’ve thought about this a lot and had plenty of time to put things in perspective over the last year. Sidney Crosby has been very vocal about the head shots and blindside hits since he suffered one in the Winter Classic, but what did Crosby say after Cooke hit Savvy last year? Nothing.

“I thought a lot about that. You want to be a good teammate, but you shouldn’t be a hypocrite about it.”

A blind shot to the upper shoulder is so close to the head and can still cause brain damage, so I'm still fine with the suspension. Plus, those high shoulder shots can "roll" into a head shot, which seems to have happened here. You can get into one of those frame-by-frame examinations of a hit to debate on the technicality of a head shot, or you can just say close enough.
