I thought we would make a repository for information and comments about our afterthoughts.

I know a few things about this group:

Landon Rice TE - Jacksonville St. - Was considered one of the best blocking TEs in the draft (his dad is an oline coach) - he was a 4 star recruit to Auburn, but was thrown out of Auburn over a r*pe accusation which had no criminal repercussions, but ran afoul of thestudent discipline group which is independent of the athletic department. Along with Seth Williams - he appears to be a guy who might help out at TE, but may also improve special team downfield blocking in the return game.

Andre Mintz - Edge - runs a 4.57 forty an appears to be a legitimate prospect to develop.

Drew Himmelman - OT - is either 6'10" or 6'9" - seems to have good pass protection skills, but at this height needs to remember to somehow get his pad level down in the run game.

Curtis Robinson - ILB stanford - I wouldn't have drafted or signed this guy from what I saw in his play. He could be developed - as he is quick enough to cover people - he just got run over like he was one of the paper hoops teams rush through during stadium introductions.

Robinson was highly recruited when he came out. The talent is there the production mot so much. Intriguing upside. Probably the most upside of our undrafted guys but Mintze is probably the most self made.

SUMMARY: Shaun Beyer was a four-sport standout at John F. Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. He earned All-State honors as a senior captain with 43 catches for 853 yards and 11 touchdowns, adding five rushing touchdowns and a pick-six interception. A three-star recruit, Beyer flipped from North Dakota State to Iowa and then moved from wide receiver to tight end during his redshirt year. After playing mostly special teams as an underclassman, he was a valuable part of the offensive game plan the last two years despite Sam LaPorta passing him on the depth chart. Beyer is an efficient move blocker, keeping his eyes, hands and legs in lockstep to drive obstacles from the lane. His athleticism also shows as a pass-catcher, but his routes lack rhythm and he is inconsistent snatching outside his frame. Overall, Beyer doesn’t have an exciting resume, but he comes from a program that produces tight ends and there are untapped, athletically gifted elements to his game.

SUMMARY: Drew Himmelman was a standout basketball and football star at Geneseo High, playing mostly tight end. He considered walking on at Iowa or taking a basketball scholarship, but instead he grayshirted and redshirted at Illinois State, adding 75 pounds and moving to offensive tackle. Himmelman became the starting left tackle and started 39 games the last four years (instead of opting out, he was one of the few 2021 prospects who elected to play during the 2021 spring season). He has a wide base and enough lateral agility to mirror rushers off the edge. However, his punch timing and handwork are underdeveloped, leaving him catching or off balance. Himmelman will give ground to bull rushers due to his taller stature. As a run blocker, he loses leverage quickly, but he can wash defenders with his raw body/hand power. Overall, Himmelman still is relatively new to the offensive line and must invest in his upper body mechanics/leverage to play in the NFL

SUMMARY: Franklin “Mac” McCain III played football growing up in Greensboro, but didn’t take it seriously until he returned to the sport as a junior at Dudley High. He combined for 24 passes defended over his final two seasons while also lettering in basketball and track (10.90 100-meters). McCain stayed close to home and signed with FCS North Carolina A&T and posted 30 passes defended, 374 interception return yards and four interception return touchdowns over his 29 starts (missed parts of the 2018 and 2019 seasons due to a knee injury). His grandfather (Franklin) was an influential figure in the fight for civil rights. McCain looked like he was playing at a different speed at the FCS level, covering with quick feet and twitchy hips. He has thrived with raw instincts, but needs to mature his reads/keys. Overall, McCain is a work-in-progress with his route anticipation and run support, but he has the speed, reactive quickness and ball skills that jump off the screen.

SUMMARY: Curtis Robinson was born near San Francisco but grew up in southern California and was a three-year starter at Mater Dei High School, where he earned All-State honors as a senior with 71 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. A four-star recruit, he committed to Stanford over USC and came off the bench his first three seasons, redshirting in his third. Robinson became a starter as a junior and led the team in tackles as a senior captain, averaging 7.3 per game. He moves well laterally to mirror down the line, but he has a tough time seeing through blocks and flows with the action instead of sniffing out plays. Robinson needs to do a better job staying ahead of blocks because he doesn’t have the explosive take-on skills to free himself at the line. His zone drops are adequate, but he doesn’t show much of a feel for passing lanes. Overall, Robinson has athletic traits to work with, but he is late to recognize play design and struggles to consistently play through contact.

SUMMARY: Andre Mintze transferred from Philadelphia’s West Catholic to Imhotep Institute as a junior and led the program to a 15-0 record and state championship as a senior, finishing with 53 tackles and 14 sacks in 2015. A two-star recruit, he committed to Vanderbilt and played more of a linebacker role as an underclassman, but the defense adopted a four-man front in 2020 under new defensive coordinator Tim Roof. Mintze finished second on the team (behind Dayo Odeyingbo) in sacks and tackles for loss in 2020. With his tweener size, he can be engulfed by blockers and late to shed blocks. But Mintze flashed the ability to surprise blockers with his quickness, converting his speed to power and putting rushers on their heels. His motor and work habits belong in the plus column. Overall, Mintze lacks ideal size to dig in as an edge setter or string rush moves together, but he has the upfield acceleration and attacking attitude to fight for a subpackage role as a pass rusher.

42. WARREN JACKSON | Colorado State 6060 | 219 lbs. | SR. Mission Hills, Calif. (Bishop Alemany) 6/16/1999 (age 21.87) #9
BACKGROUND: Warren Jackson was born in Los Angeles and originally attended Redondo Union High School. After becoming a starter as a sophomore, he recorded 46 receptions for 699 receiving yards and seven touchdowns as a junior, earning First Team All-Bay honors and leading Redondo to a 10-3 record. Midway through his junior year, Jackson relocated and transferred to Bishop Alemany High School for his final season. As a senior, he earned First Team All-League honors with 57 catches for 955 yards and seven touchdowns. Jackson also lettered in basketball as a power forward.
A three-star recruit out of high school, Jackson was the No. 152 wide receiver in the 2017 class and the No. 101 recruit in the state of California. He received several Pac-12 offers and originally verballed to Arizona the summer prior to his senior year. However, Jackson decommitted a week before signing day and flipped to Colorado State. After the Mountain West originally announced to postpone the fall college football season in August 2020, he decided to opt out and prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. Jackson received invitations to the East-West Shrine Bowl and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, but neither were played due to the pandemic.

STRENGTHS: Long, athletic frame...huge, flexible catch radius to adjust and play over top defenders...shows the natural focus and tracking skills to watch the ball into his hands from awkward body positions...pushes off the line of scrimmage with long strides to build up acceleration...carries his speed well out of his breaks...matches or exceeds the aggressive nature of opposing cornerbacks...will trample defenders before or after the catch...was a first down machine with 75.8% of his receptions resulting in a fresh set of downs or touchdown...his coaches speak highly of his work ethic...highly productive 2019 season.
WEAKNESSES: Below average long speed...lean-muscled and lacks ideal bulk...upright player and lacks fluidity...his routes tend to drift with the wind, rounding his breaks and freelancing...more concerned with getting to the end point than establishing tempo and footwork in his route construction, making his path predictable and rushed...doesn’t have an explosive top-gear...braces for contact instead of driving through it as a ball carrier...wasn’t much of a YAC threat in college (only 28.8% of his career yardage came after the catch)...below-average blocker.
SUMMARY: A three-year starter at Colorado State, Jackson lined up across the formation in former head coach Mike Bobo’s offense. He is the latest in an impressive
pipeline of Colorado State pass-catchers (Rashard Higgins, Preston Williams, Michael Gallup, Olabisi Johnson), averaging 7.7 catches and 111.9 receiving yards per game as a junior in 2019 before opting out in 2020. Jackson feasted on contested catches at the college level, routinely showing off his rangy catch radius to make plays above the rim or over defenders. But his lack of explosive traits and attention to detail make it tough for him to separate vs. coverage. Overall, Jackson isn’t much of a route technician, which could limit his role in an NFL offense, but his strong hands and mid-air adjustment skills are NFL-quality, which gives him a chance to earn a roster spot due to his splash potential.

I am excited that the Broncos have added guys like Beyer who could contribute something to the TE room, but also could be top line special teams guys.
