What happens if you buy out a player on a 35+ contract? He's still a 5M cap hit right? But they pay him less money?

I think it is half the price for twice the duration, so in his case it would be 2.5 million for 2years

It doesn't make sense to buy him out. Maybe some team will be willing to add to their roster experienced guy for 1 year. But it is most likely not going to happen.

This year I kept thinking that someone might want him as a veteran leader and to hit the cap floor. Next year that is even more attractive since he'll only have 1 year left on the deal.
