You guys are killin' me! Sheesh, I get back from a long night of work and you don't even have all the trades listed in separate threads? SLACKERS. :)

(As I say all of this, I guarantee that I somehow missed the thread and will eat a heaping pile of crow).

:)

Aww.... no "for Setoguchi+Coyle" at end of thread title?

I'm still fuming about this one... Dougie gave up WAY too much when he could have just re-signed Ian White instead of letting him walk.

Makes Holmgren's moves the other day look like pure fucking genius mastermind shit, IMO!

Burns will kill it in SJS, but...Seto in Minny? He's gonna be a star. Agreed, far to much for BOOOOO-urns.

I still think the Sharks win out in this one. Burns will be an absolute stud. Seto will be a nice player, who knows about the prospects. Besides, you guys have offense so you could afford to lose a bit.

Maybe I rate Brent Burns too highly, but the Sharks definitely needed to upgrade the backend and they accomplished that with this trade. They paid a significant price to get him, but I think it will turn out to be well worth it.

I think it's a good trade for both sides. From the San Jose perspective, at least, they dealt from a position of strength to upgrade a position of weakness. Trading Setoguchi, while hard to do, doesn't really open a new hole in the Sharks' lineup. For the Wild, they added a piece to aid an anemic offense.

You have to give up talent to get talent. Both sides did that here.

Worth it if the Sharks win a cup within the next couple of years. If not...well the Sharks only have 2 first round picks still in the organization since the lockout so once Thornton and Marleau et al start showing their age, there's not much of a future for this team.

The Sharks are in a tough situation, obviously, they're still a very good team, so you can't "blow it up" (hate that phrase, by the way), so you're left to re-tooling in the hopes that it will pan out. I still think Doug Wilson is in the uper echelon of GM's in the league and I like this trade.

I don't think we know for sure who wins this trade until next summer.
As of now, i think SJ paid a hell of a lot for Burns, but it could be much worse:

Setoguchi just signed a 3 year deal.
Coyle and a 1st are decent long term assets as well.

Brent Burns is a UFA next july 1. They could end up with 1 season, then nothing.

Hmm.. Blow it up. Isn't that what the Flyers did to a team that was in the Stanley Cup Finals a year ago?
