The MLB is turning into the NFL where it is the big wow number but isn’t really the deal. 2 options is really just a 1 year deal. But it is nuts he would 40 for 1 year. He’s a good player and at best they are a distant 2nd best team in the division

Sorry. Not close at all. Haniger is washed and has zero value. Castillo DOES have value, but he might not even project to be better than Bello over the next 3 years(for much more money).

I don’t know how you figured SEA gets a “top prospect” in this scenario, either. Where do you see the value proposition for BOS?

Haniger is just a money move.

Everything I read, sounded like Sox want to dump Yoshida's money. Haniger is the tradeoff for that with only one year on his deal. So benefit Sox on that.

That leaves Castillo for Grissom (not needed by Sox and not the highly touted player he was with Atlanta), Bello (I didn't realize he was that highly thought of) and a Top Prospect. Doesn't seem that off. If Castillo isn't worth that, then ya I wouldn't move him.

Boston overall $4M more over life of deals.
