Watching MLB Network tonight and the ticker said that the Giants are exploring a trade for Ryan Braun...but didn't give much else.

1. Would you even want this guy?

2. If yes, what do you suppose the asking price would be?

3. If yes, what do you suppose the "healthy" lineup would look like with him in it?

1. Yes. LF has been a black hole for us.

2. Depends. If MIL wants SF to take on all of Braun's salary, then a couple of low level prospects would do it. If SF wants MIL to pick up a chunk of the salary, the asking price goes up accordingly.

Duffy 3b
Posey c
Braun lf

That would be a potent lineup

Swap Belt for Duffy and I'm right there with you.

ESPN is reporting it is going to most likely include Beade and Arroyo to start, but the Brewers will pick up a bunch of the contract.

I would hate that deal. It would limit the future immensely.

1. I would like the bat, don't really want the guy.

2. What Stokes said. I think it would take Beede no matter what though, even if we eat much of the contract.

I would rather the Giants pick up more of the contract and give up less of the prospects, but then again, a guy could dream...

I would rather pick up 2 or 3 bully arms than add a big bat. Especially THAT big bat (sorry tz...).

As much as I love Arroyo, I would be more willing to part with him than I would be of parting with Beede or Bickford. The path to rings goes throu the rotation, not the lineup. And besides, our infield is pretty set for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't give up Arroyo, we'd be trading a Christian for a Jew and that's just bad juju

(See what I did there?)

Braun is almost 33. We just gained some leverage by doubling our lead from 3 to 6 games. If they want 2 mid-level prospects, maybe. Arroyo is somewhat expendable because of our infield. If they want Beede, they'll have to pick up some salary, as in a lot.

We aren't desperate to make this deal, and it should be priced accordingly. I don't like his age. Longer term, his career is headed one way - south.

If they want us to underpay, I would listen. If they expect us to overpay, just say no.

I just don't see LF as the big issue; Braun is a "nice to have" not a "have to have."

Bring me Andrew Miller.

A lot of people think Barry Bonds was/is the biggest asshole in modern baseball. Personally, I think it's Braun. What he did to the piss collector after he pissed hot is despicable. Biggest piece of shit in baseball.

Or not. Many more prospects (even top ones) shit the bed than become difference makers. I haven't read or seen anything about or from these two that would suggest to me that they're untouchable.

Now, I'm not saying I'd trade them for Braun because he's a walking bag of rotting foreskins, I'm just saying that I don't agree with the idea that these guys are the Giants' future. For every Mike Trout that hits the MLB ground running, there are dozens of Phil Hughes that barely amount to shit in the majors.
