Yesterday afternoon Boise State's Allie Ostrander, once again, broke yet another distance running record. Actually she broke several records, in winning her 3rd straight N.C.A.A. Championship in the 3,000 Meter Women's Steeplechase. First of all her time of 9:37.73 yesterday in the N.C.A.A. finals of the Women's 3,000 Meter Steeplechase broke the (now) former Boise State school record. The previous Boise State school record was 9:37.84 set by Marisa Howard in 2015.
Secondly, by winning her third consecutive N.C.A.A. championship in the Steeplechase she accomplished something that NO OTHER FEMALE RUNNER has ever done. Jenny Barringer of Colorado is the only other woman who has won three N.C.A.A. Championships in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase however she did not do that in consecutive years as she won in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Allie also ran her race(s) yesterday in 98 degree heat - where the temperature on the track was estimated to be 115 degrees. And Allie won the Steeplechase yesterday by 7 seconds (about 40 yards) over the 2nd place finisher from New Mexico.
Allie Ostrander also ran the fastest time for a woman in the N.C.A.A. this season in the 10,000 Meters. But she has competed the last three years in the N.C.A.A. Championships ONLY in the Steeplechase and the 5,000 Meters. Personally I think she would win TWO national championships if she would run in the 10,000 Meters and the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase.
Here's a YouTube video of Allie Ostrander from EIGHT years ago - in 2011 - in which she ran her very first 5,000 Meter race. She won that debut race by an astounding 53 seconds over the 2nd place finisher.
