Doesn’t Root pay for the Blazers? I thought the Blazers leaving would save them money at first but relegate Root to basically a private PBS channel.Uh oh. The cheap ass owner lost another paying customer.
Yes but make all advertising money. That is why they sign these teams. Pay them $30M (just an example) but bring in $50M in advertising for their games. It is supposed to be a money maker.Doesn’t Root pay for the Blazers? I thought the Blazers leaving would save them money at first but relegate Root to basically a private PBS channel.
Which obviously means Root wasn't bringing in the revenue they expected or had in the past with Blazers and Kraken. Otherwise they would have never let them out of their contracts. I couldn't find their revenue from Xfinity and Fubo. That would be interesting to see what it has been over the last three years.Yes but make all advertising money. That is why they sign these teams. I guess it does matter if they were making money off it or not. If it was a money pit, then they are better off without it. If they were making money, then yes here we go again. Hard to believe it wasn't making real good money though. Why would Stanton buy it a few years back if it wasn't? Head-scratcher.So they'll drop the team payroll by another $20 million to make up for it.
Yeah, the problem with the Mariners is they bought Root at the peak of the cable bubble. For being rich people they sure are dumb. All they had to do is just look throughout the city. Cord cutting was becoming a thing and they just had to look to UW to see how badly the Pac 12 Network was doing.Yes but make all advertising money. That is why they sign these teams. Closing in on Marlins total team salarySo they'll drop the team payroll by another $20 million to make up for it.
Yes. This Xfinity blame was wrong. I mean it started long before that and they didn't see it until it hit them in the face which is odd because this would fall in the lap of the lady they thought was a genius who left for Baltimore.Yeah, the problem with the Mariners is they bought Root at the peak of the cable bubble. Crap, us and Oregon State were hanging out with no cable deal and Root didn’t even attempt
Yep, that’s why I asked in the off-season what she actually did when we were all yelling at Stanton and Co and the FO. It seems all of the “monetary issues” the Mariners have would’ve been her responsibility.Yes. This Xfinity blame was wrong. Agreed. Maybe that is why they didn't fight her leaving.Yep, that’s why I asked in the off-season what she actually did when we were all yelling at Stanton and Co and the FO. It seems all of the “monetary issues” the Mariners have would’ve been her responsibility.
I don’t think you could say monopoly. The local stations refused to go for the rights and realistically Root had nothing besides the M’s, Kraken and Blazers. They weren’t smart enough to do college football. Back when I was a kid they at least had the replays for the Huskies and Cougs and they had the Big Sky. Football is king and they got the Mariners and B and C squad Blazers and Kraken games but paid for the A squad games.Good... Get rid of the monopoly for the NW local viewers...
