their SOS is 159. and you don't need to be anywhere near good to beat teams like UCF by 12, or hell, 30 points.

You can say this all you want, but only three of 357 teams are ranked ahead of them in KenPom. So, no. Actually, there are very few teams who can beat down good cupcakes teams like Louisville does.

This is true. If you examine the scores every day most games are fairly close...especially in conference play.

I don't know what kenpom is.

Is is like the college basketball verison of WAR?

It's stats adjusted for efficiency (how many possessions a team has), opponents, lineups, and a bunch of other factors. He also has very good player ratings, but they haven't been free for a few years.

That makes my head hurt just thinking about all those stats.

go ahead and use kenpom all you want. He is telling you that Creighton is #2. That's all I need to know about that. and don't take my comments about Louisville as saying I don't think they are good. I just think the tournament will be their first chance all season to prove that.

Team A- 122 SOS, 162 Non Conference SOS, 1-2 vs top 25 RPI teams, 2-2 vs RPI 26-50 teams, 0-0 vs RPI 51-100 teams, 16 wins vs RPI 150+ teams, 8-2 in road/neutral games

Team B- 57 SOS, 80 Non conference SOS, 1-3 vs RPI top 25, 3-3 vs RPI 26-50, 2-2 vs RPI 51-100, 7-5 in road/neutral games, 6 wins vs RPI 150+ teams

Neither team has any bad losses. Teams are separated by 13 spots in the RPI. Which do you guys think is the more tourney worthy team OR should both make it?? Also where do you seed these teams??

I would give team B the edge, but there isn't a ton to go on here. I always hated how games are split up into 1-25, 26-50 and so on. It gives a game vs #45 the same weight as #30, and #20 the same weight as #5.

They don't have any good wins, but the way that they beat down on shitty teams says that they are for real. They're #4 in KenPom. They haven't been tested in their wins at all. You don't win 20 of 26 games by a dozen points or more, even with a subpar schedule, if you aren't really good.

I totally disagree. Consistently beating bad teams means you're consistently better than bad teams, no more no less. Until they beat someone in the top 25 of the RPI, they don't deserve any better than a 6 seed.

You can say louisvilles resume deserves a 7 seed and also say that the cardinals are a final 4 caliber team. The 2 arent mutually exvlusive. Louisvilles resume stinks but their actual raw numbers on sitesvlike kenpom, massey, sagarin ( sitesvthat rate teams based on performance not resume ) are great.

I think some of you guys are over thinking this. Kinda turning this thing into sabermetrics. It's not really that complicated. It doesn't really need this much analysis. It kills time, but the best test is the eye test.

I also use the eye test for myself because I watch every teams play at least 5 times throughout the year and most teams many more than that.

But the eye test is not how seeding ends up getting determined. They do all this analysis and that's why it's fun trying to see where we would put these teams.

Sometimes with the name of the team hidden we go off the numbers and rate them higher or lower than what our eyes tell us. And that's what makes it fun.

Your last sentence says it all. Very true I like doing blind resumes (props rmillia1), if you don't cheat it makes it really interesting when you find out the name to the resume. I find myself off by two seeds more than I would have originally thought or care to admit.

It all comes down to the eye test for the most part especially after the final 32 when filling out my bracket.

Eye test AND match-ups. A great team can get a horrible draw.

Thats what makes the committees job so interesting IMO. When all you get are the numbers you get a TRUE reflection of a teams resume, not necessarily their potential for success in the tourney.

Here's an example of gettin a crap draw....

Kentucky could play Louisville in the round of 32. I'd take Louisville in that matchup.

Entirely possible. Every year you get second round 4/5 or 3/6 matchups with 2 teams that are ranked ( by the humans ) in the top 15 or 20. For example you could easily see a 4 seed SDSU play a 5 seed Iowa or a 3 seed Cincinnati play a 6 seed Michigan. Neither of those are draws are good for any of the 4 teams but both VERY real possibilities.

That's why it'd be a crap draw for Kentucky. Those freshmen would collapse under the pressure of that Louisville D. If Louisville starts reigning down the 3;s like they often do then fugitaboutit.
