I’m still taking Fincher.
Some of those entries are laughable.
If Oh Brother wasn’t below below each of the Fincher movies, Coens might have it.

Se7en
The Game
Fight Club

Honestly? While Se7en and Fight Club are excellent films, the Game is decidedly average. Sorry nothing is going to change that. ;)

Both Hitchcock, Lean, Wilder and others blow those out of the water.

Retards of a feather roll down the hill together.

Really though, they are completely different types of movies, but that stretch of M Night movies is FAR better overall than any Kevin Smith movie. Don't get me wrong, I like Dogma, but Chasing Amy is vastly overrated and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is very repetitive and can only watch like once every decade or so.

I think if the ending to Fight Club would have been better id hold it with the greats.

Se7en is good but nothing I'd watch more than once.

I'm not a movie auteur, but for pure entertainment value :

Steven Spielberg
Jaws, Close Encounters, 1941, Raiders
He might have been a lock if not for 1941.
Also had Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, JP : Lost World

John Carpenter
The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing

James Cameron
Terminator, Aliens, Abyss
T2, True Lies, Titanic (this is tough to beat)

Stephen Soderbergh
Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Ocean's Eleven

Adam McKay
Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers

Peter Jackson
Lord of the Rings Trilogy I-III
I don’t think you know what the word ‘auteur’ means, actually.

Also, your list is absolute shit. Please get fucked at your earliest convenience:D

Lighten up, Francis.

Will you dazzle us with your list, please?
I’m about to make a shoot-off thread on this topic.

Off the top of my head, Christopher Nolan

Batman Begins (5/5 stars)
The Prestige (4.5/5 stars)
The Dark Knight (5/5 stars)

Coppola would probably be in second place

The Conversation (4/5 stars)
The Godfather Part II (3.5/5 stars)
Apocalypse Now (5/5 stars)

John Hughes

Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day off

*if you forget that Weird Science is in the middle there...

John Hughes.
Just John Hughes.

End of discussion.

Pick almost any 4 movie sequence and it's a grand slam.
Any movie and it's either a block buster, cult classic or both.

This is not a 3 film run by a director, by the way.

Not that you’re the first person ITT to break the rules.

Made that off the top of my head. Haven't seen The Conversation.

He didn't explicitly say it had to be 3 consecutive films anyway. Was just going with within a general time frame.

I gotcha. I think if you start moving films around, it kind of messes up the whole exercise, but this is a message board and I get where you’re coming from.

I definitely recommend The Conversation though. It was released in 1974, and has only become more and more relevant as the years pass.
