Interesting, lower-stakes match up for game 1. Home game.... Probably a make or break year for both coaches.

Also means a likely early week bye as punishment for not opening on the road for a 2nd straight year...LOL

So Ja'Marr Chase versus Justin Jefferson.

Justin Jefferson against LSU North.

Zimmer coming back to his old haunting grounds. Pick one.

Interesting week for AFC-N teams.

Steelers at Bills
Browns at Chiefs
Ravens at Raiders (MNF)

Those are three very difficult spots. The Bills will be the favorite to win the AFC-E and a contender for the AFC. The Chiefs will be the overall favorite in the AFC (watch out for superbowl loser hangover though). The Raiders will be playing their first game in front of a crowd in Vegas (could be a huge Baltimore crowd though).

Anyway, tough week for the North. Bengals have the most favorable match up mostly due to being at home.

I think I saw someone say the Steelers haven't opened at home since 2014. Long time as well.

Ravens will be the only road team favored of those 3 in the division.

Yeah.... I think Pittsburgh has the same situation we do which is that the baseball schedule can sometimes impact their situation. They also share their stadium with Pitt which is probably a logistical nightmare as well.

We finally have the ultimate Andy Dalton/Marvin Lewis schedule and neither are here to enjoy it.

Very bottom heavy in terms of quality of opponent. The Baltimore, KC, @Cleveland finish is ridiculous.... On the other hand, you could make the argument that the Bengals could win 6 or more of their first 9.

At one point I saw the bengals were 5.5 or 6.5 for total wins. Would have banged the over on that. They'll likely win 7 or 8 games this year. Thing to keep in mind:

Despite the suckage at times last year, they lost something like 8 or 9 games by 10 or less points...and I think 6 of those were less than a TD??? I'm not going back to verify 100%, but bottom line is - any improvement is bound to help that balance out.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion! Good work.
I'm here to help. I thought the point of the discussion was the sorry-ness of the two teams in the opener.

Not a horrible schedule. we should be close to 8-8 and we will find out what our real weaknesses are, mostly that our defense is still not very good.

If our defense is still bad with the amount of decent to good talent we have on it, I am am blaming Anarumo.

I'd place some blame on Tobin. They've added players through free agency, but only hit on a few pieces in the draft. Overall, they've let themselves get to a situation where the D was in need of a complete rebuild and that should never happen.
