You guys are right. Perhaps I should take the shades off I am viewing him in right now, and re-evaluate what I am seeing.

However, besides the tackle for the loss, and I do remember the forcing QB to throw an incomplete pass, the play I am remembering most, probably due to my initial feelings on him, is the one where he got pancaked and held to the ground and didn't hardly move once he got there. To me at the time was screaming, well there is why he had lack of production in college, he gives up too easy and doesn't keep driving. He is willing to accept defeat.

No doubt there are still areas he'll have to get better at. He had some struggles, as I pointed out he got stone-walled a few times. Going to have to learn how to counter when his initial move is stopped. That's going to be a huge part of his development...but the speed, burst, and overall effort are good on the initial set.

No doubt that when he gets knocked down/or stuffed, he's going to have to also learn how to disengage better and get back into the play. Especially with his speed and athleticism, he's going to have more than a few chase-down tackles.

Dylan Fairchild was impressive. Here is some quick tape on him from the game. Might have actually found our LG of the future?

Dylan Fairchild Highlights
He was the highest graded linemen. He had an 84 run grade, and a 81 pass grade. For game 1 in the pre-season, I'll take that.

What I saw most was - he recovered well on pass-pro, but overall I didn't think he had any real issues. Did see him and Brown pick up a stunt seamlessly - something the LG last year could not figure out.

In the run game - he's a beast. He moved people. He got down field. He moved the pile. If the Bengals can continue to grow Mims, and if they can get just league average play over at RG...this line has a chance to be pretty solid. Not great. Not top 15...but like the defense, they don't need to be. They just can't be dead-assed last.
