A useful idiot.
So, I was driving home from hanging out with a friend tonight at about 1am. Clipping along on the highway at just over 65mph in a 55 zone when I see a cop on the roadside in the dark who totally comes after me.
I pull over and he tells me I was going 68 and I give him the license and registration.
He asks if I have been drinking at all tonight and I tell him that I had a couple margaritas with dinner, but that it was hours ago and I'm sure I'm fine. He asks me if I will take a sobriety test anyway and I say sure. So, I get out of the car and do the pen test, walk with my feet in front of me, and stand on one leg for awhile. I was pretty nervous b/c even though I knew I was sober, I've never done a sobriety test before. And because beyond the normal ramifications of fine, arrest, and court time that could accompany a DUI, it could create problems for my law license as well.
I did the test and was told to go back to my car where I'm sweating bullets and thinking my best case scenario for the night is I'm out a hundred bucks and my worst case scenario is just too awful to even think about.
The cop walks up to my car and says he's going to let me off with just a warning because I was "real straight forward with him and because I have a Capitals' sticker on the back of my car."
No fine, no arrest...on my way. Thanks Caps! You ruined my day, but you made my night.
