"Gonzalez really struggled to locate his offspeed stuff today. And while his fastball looked good when it found the inner third of the plate, it rarely did so, and when it did, it was often followed by a pitch that sent Carlos Ruiz leaping out of his stance. Ruiz got quite a workout with Gonzalez on the mound. And the hitters made quite a bit of solid contact. Domonic Brown, Byrd, Tony Gwynn Jr. were the three who were in rotation against Diekman and Gonzalez. All three were right on him, regardless of the pitch. I saw one swing-and-miss, and that was a check swing sort of thing. There was no sizzle at all to his stuff. For the hundredth time, it's early, and the Phillies have plenty of time for their $12 million investment to pay off. But we're talking about 2014 right now, and right now it's really hard to see Gonzalez making up enough ground to even be in the conversation for Opening Day."

It seems that Hamels and Pettibone may not be available for the first few games of the season.

that's too bad, but i'm not worried about it though. essentially a 4 million a year reliever. totally worth the chance they took.

Yeah, if Hamels and Pettibone cannot open the season together, and they don't feel comfortable syarting Gonzalez, it will be interesting to see what they do. I found this quote, which I found a little interesting.

"Sandberg could look to Miguel Gonzalez, the $12 million import from Cuba, as an option. Ethan Martin is another possibility. Sandberg mentioned B.J. Rosenberg as another candidate."

If Gonzalez looks terrible in ST, I wonder if they send him to the minors for more work or stick him in the bullpen as a 6th or 7th inning guy. It probably depends on just how bad he looks.

yeah.. i doubt if he looks like complete shit they would even consider leaving him on the team for any role. he might get prospect treatment at this point.

I figure if he ends up being a complete bust they can always rat him out to the Cuban government.

Where was Amaro from '95-'96? Dykstra only played a combined 102 games in those two seasons. He would have had feds surrounding the dugout after Lenny was done shooting up to take him into custody.
