Browns cut both Weeden and Campbell today. Sure its no guarantee, but this would be a first step if it was.

They have Hoyer and probably will draft a QB.

Yes they have Hoyer but let's not pretend like he's really something special. Not that Cousins is. As far as I know that takes them down to 1 QB on the roster. If they have any plans on actually competing this year, they will have to bring in somebody to challenge Hoyer.

I agree completely with this logic.

The qbs in the draft seem to be dropping, i think we wont get more than a 3rd for cousins at this point

Cleaveland picks 4th in the draft. Even if the entire NFL goes nuts and three teams try to trade up in the draft, they are in position to get a QB. Only way I see them coming with a deal for Cousins is if we were willing to part with him for almost nothing, which I dont see happening. I know many have faith in Griffin, but fact is he is one more bad hit to the wrong leg from game over status. So if we traded Cousins and the worst happened, lets just say it would not be good to trade Cousins unless they made an offer we cant refuse. Which I dont see them doing. If Cousins were a sure fire lock to be better than the quality of QB they could get with the #4 pick, I could se it. But truth is, he is more valuable to us on the roster then the 3rd round or later pick we would likely get for him.

Since it appears that we will not get anything close to a 2nd for cousins, we should just keep him. He is a cheap insurance policy.

I like cousins too. I wish we could keep him for 5 more years plus. I just don't know how to make the business part of that happen. He wants to start

IF we keep him, it will only be for the remainder of his rookie contract unless RG3 gets injured. But that's OK. He is cheap and a good insurance policy. It also gives us 2 years to draft his replacement and groom him. Won't be surprised if we take a QB with a late pick this year.

If you can't get at least a second for Cousins, let him finish his rookie contract here.

1) Who cares if he wants to start somewhere? We own his rights.

2) If RG3 gets hurt, maybe Cousins can be our answer.

3) If he leaves in FA after his rookie contract, signs elsewhere for a decent check, and starts...we likely get a 3rd rounder for him in compensatory pick.

If we get a compensatory pick out of that then it is a no brainer. We keep him.

Eh, let's remove the compensatory pick from our thoughts here. Too much goes into that to even consider it a bonus.

I'd take a third for him honestly. I know he is cheap at his position, but so is the third rounder we would have in the draft. Would be cheaper to say--draft a good ILB at 3 and sign a backup QB than sign a good ILB now and keep Cousins, no?

Safety and ILB market is thinning. If we have to look to the draft for these positions, a 2nd or 3rd goes a long way. I just don't think you can rule out a 3rd.

I would consider a 3rd. It could allow us to package a 2nd and a 3rd to move up and get a real impact player at a position of need like Mosley or a Clinton Dix or Pryor.
