Baltimore's going to be the new Tampa

Maybe not in 2023, but they are going to be a huge pain in the ass going forward.

I still think they need some starting pitching if they're going to be serious AL East contenders (though Grayson Rodriguez and DL Hall could help bolster that rotation), but they're starting to put together a core (Rutschman/Henderson/Mullins) and they have several other quality Major Leaguers (Santander, Urias, Mountcastle,. They should be trying to lock up Rutschman and Henderson before they can hit arbitration. I also really like Terrin Vavra, he can play 2B/SS/CF and he should be a good OBP guy.

Arizona will be very interesting this year. They've got two in the top 27 that are already in the majors (Carroll and Moreno), and Pfaadt looks about ready for the majors (2.63 ERA, 74/14 K/BB, 0.99 WHIP in 61.2 IP in PCL). Hell, I wouldn't rule out Lawlar making his MLB debut later in the season. They had also just graduated Alek Thomas (was #32 in BA) and Jake McCarthy. Drey Jameson made 4 starts and looked good (he had a rough minor league season, but it was also the PCL).

Cleveland has some impressive pitching depth. I also had Logan Allen mixed up with the other Logan Allen.

Just for some context, I randomly looked up the BA top 100 from 2000.

Not an inspiring list. No HOF yet (maybe #57 CC, but I think only #95 Rollins is still on the ballot at this point for everyone else).

A few decent players, but more miss’ than hits.

no HOF, but you could put together a great roster with that. I'd go Berkman at first, Rollins, Furcal, Guillen rounding out the infield, Pat the Bat, Werth, Vernon Wells, Hamilton if you catch him on a good year. Then you got CC and a load of solid starters with Mulder, Beckett, Burnett, Brad Penny, maybe Tony Armas. You got Gagne as your closer, and mix in some other guys as setup men.
You also have Soriano to plug in somewhere or use as a DH, maybe Dunn as a DH. Catcher is pretty weak. I guess Matt Lecroy is the guy. Also I think Aubrey Huff was a catcher at one time but I could be wrong.

Sad

Had such high hopes for Chris George and Dan Reichert

Man, it seems like forever ago that you could find a list like this and have 2 Phillies prospects in the top 25. Very excited about what Painter can do this year with Abel on the horizon for next season.

Our farm system has work to do (still not a ton of talent in the upper minors, not much in the way of top pitching prospects), but it's refreshing to have some position players in the top 50. Casas should be a starter and Rafaela could make his debut later this season. Hoping for a healthier year from Yorke (struggled with injuries throughout 2022, looked much better in the AFL).
