A’s cancel season-ticket plan for 2019, introduce new system

“A’s Access is the first program of its kind,” COO Chris Giles said. “From access to every game to special member concessions pricing, we’re focused on maximizing the value proposition for members. We are inviting our fans to truly become members of the A’s.”

The program provides members general admission access to every game, a reserved seat plan and additional benefits including half-price concessions, 25 percent off merchandise and upgrade credits for games not included in a reserved ticket plan.

Plans begin at $240, and pricing includes $4 beers, $3 hot dogs and $2.50 sodas. Current season-ticket holders can renew under the new program. A 12-month payment plan is available.

“To better meet the evolving needs of our fans, we are changing our approach to membership,” said Giles, who’s providing more information at athletics.com/2019. “This flexible model is designed to serve both fans who want a more traditional reserved seat plan and those who desire a more flexible and social experience.”

The A’s are averaging 17,903 fans per game, lower than every big-league team except the Rays and Marlins. The A’s were on a 27-7 roll before getting swept in Colorado. They host the Blue Jays on Monday night.

Why would anyone choose to go to an A’s game when there is a much more compelling offering right across the bay?

I would assume the $240 is just for the 10 game option. It would be nice if they had all of the price options listed, before they go on sale on Friday.

Because they're a better team right now?

Will be interesting to see if this works. They're a great team, who if they had a strong fanbase would be a model franchise in MLB.

Because they're a better team right now?

Nope, even if they’re playing better baseball.

Furthermore, if I ever hear you speak such blasphemy again, I will come over there and wash out your dirty whore mouth with soap and an SOS pad.

Last time I attended a A's home game was the day after they traded Mark McGuire to St. Louis. Had my own seating section not far from the field.

Way back in 2000 the Yankees opened a playoff series in Oakland (Yankees only won 87 games that year), Roger Clemens was pitching for NY. My buddy and I walked right up that day and got good seats, not even a line to buy them. Partly this is because it's a football stadium that holds 60,000+ but mainly because they just don't have a fan base of any size. Team needs to move to Portland and/or get new not cheap owners. Tragic they didn't add anyone this year at the trade deadline.

I would be interested to see if this new system works out or will they be wishing they never switched to this system and stayed with season tickets

Meh..deadline/shmedline.

They added to their BP depth (Familia) just prior to the deadline, and to their starting rotation (Fiers) afterwards.

Their roster was already pretty solidly set at all positions, and they have plenty of serviceable parts/assets down on the farm.
