AL must win the ASG to break the NL run of post season HFA. If fans could only vote one position player to represent their team and put the strongest AL lineup on the field ... who would you vote as a TEX representative? What is the rest of your lineup?

My vote: Lance Berkman, DH

Here is my 9 position players representing the AL ... no more than one per team (meaning 6 teams are not represented in the starting lineup)

C: Carlos Santana (CLE)
1b: Chris Davis (BAL)
2b: Robinson Cano (NYY)
3b: Miguel Cabrera (DET)
SS: Jed Lowrie (OAK)
LF: Mike Trout (LAA)
CF: Lorenzo Cain (KCR)
RF: Jose Bautista (TOR)
DH: Lance Berkman (TEX)

3b: Evan Longoria (TAM)
SS: Jhonny Peralta (DET)
LF: Alex Gordon (KC)
CF: Mike Trout (LAA)
RF: Jose Bautista (TOR)
DH: Lance Berkman (TEX)

The 1 per team rule made it difficult, so I went with Peralta at SS and left off Miggy in favor of Longoria, as Longoria and Peralta lead their respective positions in WAR, and I made that my tie breaker

Funny thing I noticed is that Holland has now surpassed Darvish in WAR in the same number of starts

C: Mauer (minn)
SS is tricky for me. With Miggy at 3B and pop all through the lineup, I think I want Elvis (Tex) at SS. he's been the best defensive SS up to this point, and actually has one of the higher WAR amoung all SS. So far from a snub for anyone.
CF: Crisp (oak)
DH: Ortiz (Bos) I know he missed a lot of games, but has basically already caught and passed most DH numbers put up so far

CF: Cain (KC)
RF: Bautista (tor)
DH: Mauer (min)

I'd rather have Reynolds from CLE go as 1B, but Santana is the best catcher while still getting Mauer in the game.

Edit: Have we laughed at the Angels for the Wells thing yet? LMAO

I don't think Mauer is an option for DH

I used OPS as my criteria ... but I like the basis on WAR too. Used ESPN stats by position and for OF and DH I didn't move OF around (like moving Trout to CF) or putting a primary position player at DH.

I don't disagree with any of the posts at all so far. I was conflicted with Miggy and Peralta ... and chose Miggy. Also thought about Adam Jones in CF versus Chris Davis at 1b ... with James Looney TBR at 1b instead.

Ford ... I thought about the same move you made but would have meant pulling Cano off 2b and he's the only reason NYY is where they are and is pretty well justified on his own merit.

But sure would have been ironic for Wells to be in LF and no LAA rep in the starting lineup!

Yeah I would actually rather have Jones in CF. I'll make final list with lineup later.

Yeah Cano has been solid, but I went on numbers alone and not on merit. Ian bests Cano in all categories, but has more AB's as well. I wanted guys who got on base. No use having HR guys like Davis if they are going to hit solo HR's.

As for mauer, I admit I'm not up to speed on the DH rules. Does someone have to be an actual DH to play in that role or can they slot any position player there?

Don't know. It is a ballot spot ... 2013 All-Star Game Ballot | MLB.com: Events

all those who they list as eligible are basically non-positional DHs. Only AL teams get to vote for a DH. NL teams don't have a DH category.

Kinda irrelevant given that the game is at NYM and NL rules would apply except pitchers never bat in ASG anyway. So I would expect the DHs to bat for the pitchers turn.

I think they made the DH a full time spot in the last few years.

I don't know, can't keep up with crazy baseball rules
