Dalton (-4.3) was nearly as bad as Manziel (-5.0) according to PFF. I sometimes don't understand their grading system though. Jeremy Hill was (-1.8) on the day, including (-0.4) rushing.

What? I don't really get that grade for Hill..... He was fantastic. Yes he had tons of blocking, but he continuously did his job. He made positive yards on all plays, broke tackles, and didn't fumble the ball.

I watched a replay of the game (first half anyway) earlier today. Manziel wasn't put in the best situation to succeed. He started the game down 7-0 after a long drive by the Bengals. His first series was cut short when Reggie Nelson made a huge play to stop him a half yard short from the first down. The Bengals then went downfield and made it 10-0. Manziel's second drive was stopped when Andrew Hawkins dropped an easily catchable ball that Manziel made after scrambling out of the pocket. Bengals score again and now he's down 17-0. He never had a chance to get in a rhythm before the wheels came off.

That said, he doesn't have a strong enough arm to do some of the bullshit he tries.

Yeah, not so sure about that Hill grade. It's not like the bulk of his yards came on 1 or 2 really big runs. It was a consistent 5-6-7 yards a pop.

The running game saved the Bengals from Bad Andy. It was clear from the start he had a bad day coming. If the Bengals had to have him throwing in that game, they were losing. Period.

The Browns are the team that he seems to struggle with the most.

The passes he threw over 10 yards were comically bad. Now we have a MNF game to look forward to!

Never try to make sense of PFF's grading... It's like taking a cheese grater to your brain

The only issue I have with PFF is that it's extremely subjective. They have to assume they know the play-call. So, if they call a dive, and Hill runs to the proper slot according to the play, he may meet a pile of players and get a 2-3 yard gain. Of course, maybe a slight hole opened up to his right/left that he could have read a little better, but ultimately he ran the play called. You have to trust your OL to open holes. If you free-lance on every play, eventually you are standing next to the coaches on the sideline while another player runs the actual plays called.

IMO, Hill made two bad plays. He let himself get caught by a middle linebacker on the edge when he probably could have outrun him if he saw him and he should have easily converted that third down catch.

1 - That LB was pretty dang fast and had a better angel at Hill than Hill did around the corner of the line.

2 - Are those two plays enough to warrant marking a 148 yards and 2 TD's at a negative grade?

As I said, I thought Hill was terrific and I don't understand the grade.

I was just trying to point out two plays that were bad in an otherwise great performance.

He also fumbled twice, one out of bounds which to me was irrelevant, and the other on a play where he didn't secure the ball and got it punched out, but we didn't lose either one, and his running on the other plays more than made up for those fumbles and imo should have left him with a solid grade.

In this case, I say fuck PFF. We all have eyeballs. Jeremy Hill was awesome on Sunday. We won the game because of him. Coupled with the gift of the Browns starting Manziel, but I degress. In this case we don't need analytics to tell us who played well Sunday. Anybody who watched, whether a scout or regular fan, could see Hill's impact for the Bengals.

It's got to be due to the fumbles...2 fumbles will hurt.

They also stated that nearly 40% of his yards came on 3 long runs of over 15 yards...so, that could impact his numbers if he didn't read some of the other runs as well for the shorter gains.

Oh well. We're on to Denver.

AFC Offensive Player of the Week earns a negative grade by PFF.

That should be the name of an article by PFF explaining themselves. :)

We're on to Denver

No were not. We're on to Pittsburgh, because that is the only game we can hope to even try to win, as Denver is too good, and Monday Night Football is too big of a stage.

We are doomed against Denver. I am thinking like 45 to 10, we lose, if we are lucky.

Then Pitt and Baltimore will be 1/2 game up on us.

We try to beat Pitt, if we can beat them, Baltimore wins the division by a half game because Nugent can't make a 36 yard FG.

If we lose to Pittsburgh, then we finish 3rd in the division, and do not make the playoffs all because Nugent can't make a 36 yard FG.

I would give us a good shot against Denver if we played Sunday at 1pm.......but since it's on MNF all the stats go out the door, and we will play horribly.........
