First big domino to fall, the Rays dealing OF Randy Arozarena to the Mariners for OF Aidan Smith, RHP Brody Hopkins and the famous PTBNL. Per MLBTR

A 4th and 6th rounder from last year? Both in high A? Neither tearing it up?

He went for CHEAP.

Did the Rays do this deal to just dump salary?

Yeah I’m not happy looking at what he went for. My Phil’s are either going to pay more than this for Roberts who is no better or they’ll settle for a Tommy Pham or Lane Thomas move.

Idk I think they got a decent return

First is a pitcher who was a 2 ways focusing solely on pitching. 2.90 era in high A. Big walk rate would be the concern.

The other kid was a high school draft pick and he’s slashing .284/.402/.470 with 28 stolen bags. I think there’s A LOT to work with on that.

The pitcher is 24 in A+. Not a good sign.

The hitter looks OK, but really, more in the lotto-pick category than a high prospect.

However, I have never heard of either. Maybe one or both are highly respected prospects. And Arozarena is not having a GREAT year.

But this is supposed to be a sellers market. The prospect returns are supposed to be ridiculous. So far, we haven’t seen that.

Agreed. Its also the Rays, so I expect a steep decline from Arozarena over the next year and a half, and for at least one of these guys to step in as an above average regular at the very least. They excel in this department.

he definitely did go too cheap.... with that said i do think he is a little over-rated of a player... He is a perfect batter for this offense, i mean that because he strikes out too much, and does not have a high BA... Just like the rest of the offense...

its funny, the mariners have one of the lowest BAs, lowest runs scored... but one of the best home run hitting teams... i dont think this move changes any of that...

they have done great on draft picks... but losing there best player because of pedophilia kind of killed this team... there is no quick fix... shocked they traded their best bat for chump change... especially so early... did they really think that was the best they could have gotten??

It definitely wasn’t cheap. Smith is going to end up being the best player in this trade

Yeah, losing Franco was terrible for them, but the Rays have experience reshuffling like this. I’m firmly expecting them to develop Baumeister’s third pitch, and turning Aidan Smith into the next Yandy Diaz. This team will be fine in that department.

Just gotta wonder if they ever extend anyone like they did Franco again.

Smith has a lot of good helium in fantasy circles. He’s an impressive get, and the Rays can probably do the most for his development.
