The 3 most iconic sites of Egypt are, of course, the Pyramids, Abu Simbel Temple and Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple. See one of these, you immediately know it's Egypt.

Hatshepsut was a queen but after her husband died, she decided to keep the throne for herself instead of passing it on to her son. Then built more temples to herself, including at Karnak. This definitely caused mommy issues later because her son destroyed some of her efforts when he finally made it to Pharaoh.

Denied entry into the Valley of the Kings, she set out to have this mortuary temple built, on the other side of the mountain from the Valley of the Kings. She tried to tunnel into the Valley but came up just a little short.

The iconic look. And yes, it's as long a walk as it looks & a hike to make it to the 2nd & 3rd levels. It is still under massive restoration so we had limited access, primarily to the outside areas & none of the first floor area.

A view from the 2nd floor back across the Nile to the other side. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the desert mountains.

Outside columns on the 2nd floor. Again, using raised carvings along with traditional carvings.

Still color exists, like this picture of Anubis.

Colorful entry. We were not allowed in.

Sneaked a peak inside while a guard was distracted to see some of the interior

Made my way to the 3rd floor to get some closeups of the statues of her lining the 3rd floor area which is heavily under renovation.

From the 3rd floor, I happened to look up. Not the most comfortable feeling. With all the earthquakes Egypt has, not sure I'd want this hanging over me.

A few more places around to see a few more statues in the area, then it was time for me to leave Luxor, all the wonderful temples & tombs & head back to water.
