Whether you like it or not, the Sabres have filled every need (aside from one) that the team had going in to free agency. Well, almost.

Now it seems definite that they have faith in Butler and Sekera, because they only signed Leopold to replace 2/3 of the top three Sabres d-men.

Also, it is surely an endorsement for Mike Weber as well.

In addition, the Sabres brought in Niedermayer yesterday to strengthen the forwards and add much needed grit and leadership on the cheap.

Lalime was then signed to fill the back up goaltending role.

So,do you think they're done making any moves, or do you think they will still get a free agent winger you can provide scoring or a PP specialist either on the back end or up front?

Reiger said in John Vogl's article in the Buffalo News that the Niedermayer signing was not to move anyone out via trade. Another forward signing would definitely mean that one would need to be moved. All signs point to Stafford.

I think they will sign one more forward for 2-3 million. I don't think they will trade anybody shortly after though. Let's say that they pick up Stempniak, just for the sake of picking somebody. That would turn buffalo's 4 lines into this

Vanek-Roy-Pominville
Hecht-Connolly-Stempniak
Ennis/Kennedy-Gaustad-Stafford
Grier-Niedermayer-Kaleta

This would give you the choice of scratching one of the following each game

Ennis, Kennedy, or Stafford

Assuming Kennedy resigns for 1.25 million and Kaleta Resigns for 1 million, and assuming a 3 million dollar deal with another forward such as Stempniak, This puts the sabres cap hit, with the scratched player included, at 55.37 million.

What this would also do is give them a forward such as kennedy and/or Stafford to use as trade bait to fix whatever they think they need to at the trade deadline, and also give them the ability to absorb 5.75-6.25 of a cap hit in return.

Hopefully Regier has enough forsight to see this.

Dang. Thanks for pointing this out. Adding another forward would definitely put them at the breaking point.

While I think Stafford would definitely be the candidate to move, they'd be in a bind with Kennedy and Ennis. I really think Ennis has a spot on the team next season regardless, yet Kennedy's two-way game is worth maturing.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

No problem, Realize with these lines you wouldn't be forced to trade Kennedy, only Stafford. You are only 1 player over, and the Sabres usually scratch a player.

Good point. The Sabres should have no problem parting ways with Stafford. Yeah, he's young, and was a top draft choice, but the kid is a bust. He proved it the last two seasons playing with Roy AND Vanek.

He's a UFA next year. WTF. You either let him walk next year for nothing, or get a draft pick and or anything in return.

Learn from past Mistakes Regier, Ie Drury, Briere, Cambell, Tallinder, Lydman. Don't let future FAs walk if you know you don't have a chance at the cup that year. Shit, you could at least trade away the rights to talk to them before anybody else for a draft pick.

They will be OK. These things go in cycles and I hope before I die I get to see them win a cup.

They have the best goalie in the league I just hope they don't waste his time here.

Sorry to stir old memories, but they had the best player in the league in Hasek and we all know how that turned out. I really hope they can build a championship caliber team...:(

I give up trying to figure things out in advance. No one even thought they would make the PO's, ans they won the division.

The only thing I'm certain of, is that they won't win the Cup next season.
