Anyone think Bryant Young will ever make it to the HOF?

I don't think he will. The minute K.N.Jr shttered his leg was when his chances of making it into the HOF were gone.

He was the best D-lineman in the NFL before he got hurt though (including Reggie White).

unfortunately no, his timing in the NFL was poor.....when the 49ers weren't good anymore. its too bad and he never complained.

BY is probably one of my 5 favourite Niners of all time. Right up there with the other Young & Ronnie Lott.

Patrick Willis is slowly making his way on that list. You never hear a bad thing about the guy.

That's not right. His rookie year the 49ers won the Super Bowl. They had 4 playoff years after that and another two in the Garcia era. I think if he'd won d player of the year in 1997 instead of Dana, I would say absolutely. Cortez helps.

BY was also one of the best 3-4 DEs in the NFL (if not the best) at the end of his career. I have no idea why the media over-looked him as much as they did in his career. If he played for the Packers or the Patriots he would've gotten twice as much hype.

I don't think he will... he was on the same level as John Randle but Randle's personality just pushed him ahead of everyone else in the AllPro and Pro Bowl votes. Sapp noticed this and faked the same type of personality by making sure he trash talked Favre every time Madden was calling the game in order to gain recognition.

And like it has been said, Norton shortened his greatness by breaking his leg along with having the unfortunate timing of being stuck on some of the worst teams in 49ers history.

4× Pro Bowl selection (1996, 1999, 2001, 2002)
4× All-Pro selection (1996, 1998, 1999, 2001)
Super Bowl champion (XXIX)
NFL 1990s All-Decade Team
1994 UPI NFL-NFC Rookie of the Year
1999 NFL Comeback Player of the Year

Plus he had 30 more sacks than Cortez Kennedy (in their careers, I believe). I also believe if you ask the top OG's and Centers from that era, they would probably tell you Bryant Young was the hardest DT to work against...

HOF WORTHY!

AMEN! The only 49ers game I have seen live was BY's last game. It was in Cleveland. My wife, then girlfriend, got me 4 tickets to the game. 49ers lost, but at least I got to see him before it was too late.

He won't be a first ballot - duh - but if Kennedy & Hampton are in then BY absolutely deserves to have (and IMO, will have) his bust in Canton.

So I compare Bryant Young to Steve Young. I don't think anyone ever peaked higher than Young did, but a lot of QBs had significanntly more longevity.

BY was kind of the same thing. He was the most dominant DL in teh NFL before the break. However, there were other players who had more consistency (because of being healthier for more years IMO) who might get in ahead of him.

Players eligible for the 2013 class:

BY, Cris Carter, Charles Haley, Andre Reed, Larry Allen, Jonathan Ogden, Michael Strahan, Warren Sapp, John Lynch, and Morten Andersen.

The most dominant player on that list is Larry Allen IMO. The 2nd most deserving is Strahan IMO. After that, it's pretty tough to say who's the most deserving.

Is BY more deserving than Haley? That's a tough one.

guys like haynesworth cry when told to switch over to a 3-4. BY just kept playing hard no matter what. little things like that i doubt the voters will even consider, but hopefully he gets eventually. how long did cortez have to wait?

Should BY be in the Hall of fame? Close call but I say yes. If he had played for the niners in the late 80's and early ninety's I would say shoo in. However he was the one of ver few bright spots on a bad team which I think will hurt him. Justin Smith being the inverse with the Niners turn around in effect and him being super stud especially last season might actually stand a better shot if he keeps his play up for a few more years even though BY was a better player. BY is one of my Favorite Niners of all time behind Rathman and Ronnie Lott. And right behind BY is Patrick Willis. But I am skewed to the defensive side. Other than Rathman Give me Lott, BY, P Willie, Dean, Romonowski, Haley, Hicks, Justin Smith, and Pierce Holt.
