losing Fanene and Rucker with the additions or Still, Thompson, Harvey and Anderson?
Fanene and Rucker is a better combo than Harvey and Anderson.
I liked the fact that we picked Still and Thompson in the draft..... I'm generally in favor of building up the lines and this was a refreshing change from our past. Whether they can consistently produce as rookies remains to be seen.
Fenene got about what he is worth on the market.
Rucker got seriously over-paid.
For this coming season, the rookies won't provide more production than Fanene/Rucker would have. For the future, they have a very good chance, but only time will tell.
Couldn't agree more..... While I was happy about our draft, history suggests that few of our picks after the 2nd round will turn into productive NFL starters. It's unclear to me why people expect so much out of our rookies.
They're retarded is the only explanation. I don't know who the fuck these people think they're rooting for. We're the Bengals. We fucking suck.
So we should just keep the same guys til they're 40?
We shouldn't expect different results under the same regime. If you do you're nuts.
Things have changed. Slowly. Very slowly. At least the Bengals have been to the playoffs recently, and won 2 division titles under Lewis since 2005. The last few drafts have been amazing with regards to talent level. This past draft is still out, but value to draft they had another amazing draft.
For once in a long, long time (probably since 2005, and not since the late 80's since before that) if you went around the NFL, teams would tell you that the Bengals are setting themsleves up with the kind of talent to be a serious contender for a long time.
Now....will they do it? Who knows? Marvin has to prove that his in-game coaching isn't going to drag this team down. But with Zimmer running the defense, and Gruden on the offense...you at least have to feel good in the direction this team is going with the talent they've drafted over the past 2-3 years.
We'll see how they do with expectations raised. Something this team has not delt well with in the past under Marvin Lewis.
I don't know..... I think we get a little too much credit for our drafts. We have one above average contributor left from 2007 - Leon Hall - And he is dealing with an achilles issue. We have two below average contributors from 2008 - Collins and Sims - Good depth players but not a lot of production. 2009 gave us a tackle that could be very good if he keeps the weight down and focuses (Smith), but he's also a FA after this season, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us drop the ball on him and him have his better days somewhere else. We also netted a terrible MLB that year and a pretty good D-end.
We get a lot of credit for the last 2 drafts because we picked 4 pro-bowlers -- Can't argue with that sort of production. I guess I'm just left to wonder whether probability finally was favorable to us, or if we really have made changes in our approach to the draft.
