Steelers seeking a first-round pick for Antonio Brown; trade talks to begin at combine

They could get a 1st rounder for him but it gets tricky as to who is willing to give up the pick, along with being able to afford the contract, and who the Steelers would be willing to trade him too.
"Afford the contract" ?

3 years at just under $40mil. I think more than half the league can afford that right now. Not to mention the teams that would be more than willing to work that contract into their cap if necessary. One of the best WRs in the game today on a contract that isn't even top 10 of his position? I'd be willing to bet 25+ teams would step in line.

I fee like if they could afford him, the Pats would be a good home. Can't see that ever happening but I feel like they are always giving chances to troubled players.

I'd love to see it Rosie, but the price is $22M for one year and Brady doesn't get that kind of payday. The Pats will have between $30-40M CAP space and getting AB would kill the budget.

I'd trade a late 1st rounder (the Dallas or Chicago one) for AB in a second.....man, he'd be a great receiver for Carr.
IDK. A cancerous personality like AB could be detrimental to a young nucleus. Whoever lands AB needs a solid veteran presence in the lockerroom.

That said, Oakland will probably be in the sweepstakes. WR has been a troublesome position for the Raiders. But Mike Mayock could bring change to that trend. Raiders are just getting into the meat of Carr's massive contract, and they chose him as the centerpiece to build around, so they would be wise to surround him with elite talent. Grabbing AB also allows them to focus on their troublesome defense in the draft.

Isn't it 2 years at about $40 million?

I might be confused, but I was talking about the base salaries. I don't know what the Steelers would still be on the hook for bonus-wise, so that cap figure could change for whomever trades for him.

If only the base salary is involved then it’s a good deal for whoever the Steelers trade him to, at least money wise.

The Steelers would forfeit the 2019 season before they'd trade Brown to the Patriots.

That has a sub zero chance of happening.

Signing bonus and restructures are dead money. The only money that can move is the 3 years of salary he has left and the roster bonus(This becomes dead money on March 17).

I think a 2nd is probably the most he's worth IMO factoring his age and his obvious mental impairments. I'm sure there's some organization that thinks they could manage his behavior. If the Steelers can get a 1st, they should definitely pull the trigger. It would be better post June 1st as they get more cap relief and spread the bonus over a couple years.

Falcons are currently the Vegas favorites for where AB ends up next year ( at +400). While it's tempting to think of AB on one side with JJ on the other and Sanu and Ridley in the slots I'm just not sure it's worth it. They'd really be hamstringing their ability to improve the OL and AB is kind of the antithesis of who the Falcons are. Still.... Imagine that receiving corp lol
