lol. he has been invisible all year. Some people on here would of given him 10mil per year annually. Crazy. He is hurt again.

dean again you state foolish things . the skins did the right thing in franchising him . his past earned him that much . a chance to prove his value

it hasnt worked out for him and in the end we could get him for much less because he hasnt put up the numbers in sacks .

but neither has murphy .

rak is a very good OLB . he takes pressure off others to get sacks . i wonder how good kerrigan is if he has to face the best o/lineman every snap like rak does ?

the fact his it looks like we will get him at half the cost which is good for us

Dean... I will address this as I have a feeling "some people" would include me.

Lets say we had signed Rak to a 5 year deal with $13M guaranteed. That would likely have given him a cap number of $5 million this year instead of almost $12 million. Why does it matter you ask?? Because that $13 million would have been spread over the 5 years and we could have used the other $7 million to address things like the safety position, and maybe the o-line that every one wants. giving Rak a deal that AVERAGED $10 million a year would have meant we could have spread that $11.75 million out and tried to fix other needs. The franchise tag is ALWAYS a mistake. Because in the end, if the guy performs up to it, you then cant afford to keep him. And if he doesnt, you over paid him in one big shot and couldnt address other needs.

Absolute worst case had we signed him long term average $10 million a year, he becomes a backup in year two of the deal and we eat the $5.2 million in dead money over two years by making him a june 1st cut in year four.

The Redskins fear OLB Brian Orakpo sustained a partially torn right pectoral in Sunday's win over the Titans.

Orakpo is going for an MRI Monday. Note that he tore his left pectoral in the 2011 regular season finale and then reinjured it in Week 2 of the 2012 season. Orakpo is playing on a one-year, $11.45M franchise tag.

Problem of course is he would not have signed for $10 mil/year. He was forced to "settle" for the franchise figure. Now he is in for a rude awakening when he gets to the open market.

Hard to say if they will be able to sign him. Teams overpay for certain positions and pass rushers are one of them. He may not be a great pass rusher but he is still a pass rusher.

A lot depends on how Murphy progresses if he gets extended playing time. If he steps up, the need to resign Rak is not as pressing.

It will be interesting to see if they move Kerrigan to the right side or put Murphy there. I personally would leave Kerrigan right where he is.

I am now beginning to understand why the guy who led the country in sacks lasted until the 4th round. He has show that he is not nearly as quick off the line as Kerrigan. Just looks like "a guy" to me.

I don't think Murphy can be strickly an edge rusher. I see him bulking up some and getting more usage inside. His instincts can help him read screens better than most, and allow us to use him in different roles, but as a speed rusher he will not succeed.

Probably right, but let's give him a chance to see what he does with regular snaps and 6-8 games under his belt. He is a pretty good athlete with great natural size that has plenty of room to grow. We should be able to find uses for a guy like this. Edge rusher may not be it.

Cut him loose. He's a creation of the Washington media.

He'll be 29 before the 2015 season starts.

Feel terrible for Rak myself. Even worse for the skins. Hes always been a professional and a team guy, regardless if he hasn't played up to expectation.

Never want to see a season ending injury for any player.

I think he will go down as a pretty hated Redskin and I'm not sure that's fair. Like you said he is a pretty good guy who never did anything wrong. But he will be hated as Lavar is because he just never lived up to what we thought we were getting. Like Lavar Rak considering himself elite but he would be in the minority and that clearly rubs us the wrong way.

He took a gamble and turned down the long term contract offered by the team to play on a 1 year franchise tag before landing a huge deal. Well that didn't work out very well now did it? LOL that he'll sign a 1 year deal somewhere at the age of 29.
