Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports that the Angels and Mike Trout are finalizing a record-breaking 12-year extension worth more than $430 million.
Bryce Harper recently inked a record 13-year, $330 million deal with the Phillies, but Trout's deal would blow that away as the largest contract in professional sports history. And deservedly so. It would also keep Trout with the Angels for the remainder of his playing career. Not only would it be the richest contract ever in total value, but it would also give him the highest AAV (average annual value) ever at roughly $36 million, topping Zack Greinke's $34.4 million. Trout was previously due to become a free agent following the 2020 season, but the Angels have smartly done everything in their power to make sure that didn't happen. Stay tuned.
