Wow....WOOOOOOW. And honestly, the fact that they didn't retire his number after his death is despicable. The Pens only have 2 numbers retired in the franchise. Lemieux for obvious reasons, and a guy who played for the team one year, and died tragically at far too young of an age: Briere. It doesn't matter how long he was with the team (less than 50 games), he was part of the team, and a tragic loss...remember him. Really tactless.

I didn't read the whole thing at first and apologize. That is one shitty reference if it's what it seems to be be.

I will replace Fuck Dallas with Fuck Atlanta for a classless act like this.

Never liked it down there anyway. ASSHOLES!!!!

I just do not see where this has anything to do with Snyder or his death. Therefore I think it's stupid but it doesn't really bug me. It was 9 years ago so I would be surprised if there was any intent to make people think of Snyder.

Plus the article states there was about 25 people there so I refuse to slam the whole of Atlanta for this incident.
Its really sad he died but I would not be in favor of retiring his number either.

Maybe they could have put more thought into this "ceremony" It's a big city, someone should have said that maybe it was not appropriate. JMO.

I understand losing a team is an emotional thing, and I know all of Atlanta isn't to blame. But there are so many better ways to go about 'saying goodbye' to your team. You could for instance stage an event where many loyal Thrashers fans gathered and told stories about their favourite memories, first game they went to, etc.

But nope. A group of people chose to be melodramatic and resorted to this. The image of a Thrasher player in a casket, considering one of the turning points of the franchise was the death of Snyder, is as the report said 'despicable'. This stunt will make the BoG more than happy to vote yes(not that they weren't going to anyway) and be rid of that market.

I'm not slamming all of Atlanta for this, honestly I really love that city...but this situation wasn't handled well. If they wanted a good goodbye, they should've let the fans come and say goodbye to players, have a nice thing with telling favorite memories and having players sort of say goodbye. That's what they wanted down there, a chance to send them off. If I were a Thrashers fan, a diehard, I wouldn't go to what seems more like a death party, that'd just be depressing...why go? I'd go to say goodbye to player though.

If a team announced a move when there were still home games to be played I have seen some nice send offs. When a team moves after a season its really hard to organize a proper farewell and factor in that the fans are pissed then the 'goodbye' events are a lot more angry. There is a core group of fans that are pissed and asking them to smile and wave bye politely is probably asking too much IMO.

If I would have just seen the pictures of that event and not the commentary below it I am not sure I would have even thought of Snyder.

I tend to agree. I think a fan would clearly associate the symbolism with the drama that's played out in recent weeks, not an incident from years ago. Some might see it as tacky, but I don't think it's "despicable." You have one writer who provides the information in a context that would probably not be interpreted by most fans. I would bet 90% of the people watching this news coverage couldn't tell you who Dan Snyder even was.

I'm more confused by why the Georgia St. Panthers mascot is there than the casket.
