BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. *— Coming out of the tunnel Saturday afternoon, Bridgeport’s players burst through a banner reading “Roll Tribe.’’
That’s exactly what the No. 1 and defending state champion Indians did as junior running back Dylan Tonkery rushed for 257 yards and four touchdowns to lead Bridgeport past No. 5 Wayne 48-7 in the semifinals of the Class AA playoffs at Wayne Jamison Field.
Bridgeport (12-1) advances to Friday’s Super Six championships at Wheeling Island Stadium. Wayne (10-3) lost to the Indians for the second straight year in the playoffs after falling last season 14-13 in the state title game.
