what happens when a player goes on IR?
I have a hard time believing he doesn't get paid anything all year.
How does the player get paid (if he does) & does anything change on the cap?

A player on IR gets his full pay and counts the full cap hit minus possible workout bonus or performance bonus.

The only way this changes is if...

1. the team had verbage put into the contract to protect against injury

2. The team and the player come to an injury settlement in which case the player is released but has the chance to hook up with another team and not miss an entire season. If released on Injury settlement, the team takes the cap hit the day after the release for the settlement amount.

No problem. the only thing that gets a little dicey in there is if a player gets IRd for a non football related injury. Like if a guy breaks his leg walking down the steps after he gets out of the shower. (dont laugh, think Dana Stubblefield). the team can put him on the non-football related injury list and get credit back for his game checks and work out bonuses, but still has to account for his signing bonus if any. And in the event they want to release the player, an injury settlement still has to be worked out. Most players wont accept an injury release in this case since it does them almost no good.
