As his career comes to a close I just looked at his stats again...what is it about St Louis? His numbers this year at age 42 are better than any he had in LA (by OPS+). And that 2008-9 back to back season run was absurd.

Hope he gets to 700, only 6 away.

Honestly, I think pitchers will pitch to him, as he is widely respected in the game. Fans come out to see him and cheer for him, as opposed to some of the players that are ahead of him. I'd love to see him get to 700.
By the way, MLB Network showed 7 balls that he hit that were robbed by leaping outfielders. One by Chris Young who was carried off the field by Albert Pujols after he tore his hamstring, ending his career. He said that he would not feel bad at all if Albert ends with 699.

He has 220 at bats. That’s it.

His numbers are exceptional against lefties this year. Unreal numbers. His OPS is 1.231. That blows the doors off his career number.

Raking in half his ABs. Not a .200 hitter in the other half, against righties.

Yep. Platoon player at this point, but it seems like they're going to play him daily for the remainder at least so he gets a crack at 700.

At least he's going out on a higher note.

Yeah with their division soaring they are playing him much more frequently to give him a shot.

Hopefully Cards play a lot of mop up duty lefties in September.

Is he definitely retiring after the season? He might still have some value next year as a DH. (although he'd have to take a big pay cut)

According to him yes.

Kinda mid post all star break rampage when he was closing in on 700 but the odds of getting it were still worse than now, he was asked if he would come back to get it next year since hes still hitting well. Said he will only be at Busch as a fan.

Now I think he gets it this year anyways.

Yeah you can tell just watching him talking this year he's getting ready and putting all he has left into this last year. I think he wants to leave on an uptick like Posey.

And the first person he shook hands with was Adrian Beltre.
Congratulations to one of the all-time greats. He can ride off into the sunset in peace now.

Props to Big Al.
2 HR game. Gets his 700th.

I'm not taking anything away from him but let's be real, the way those balls flew, the pitchers grooved them in there to him. This game was meaningless to the Dodgers. And that's exactly what they should have done!

Congrats to Albert, what a career...
