Report: Alabama expected to hire former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops
Nick Saban’s coaching rehabilitation center continues to be open for business.

The latest coach to resurface in Tuscaloosa in an attempt to rehab his image looks to be former Oklahoma Sooner defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, as first reported by George Schroeder of USA TODAY Sports. If Stoops does indeed join Saban’s Alabama staff, he will follow in a long line of coaches that have come to Alabama after being dismissed from their previous jobs.

That list includes the likes of Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, Tosh Lupoi, Mike Locksley and Butch Jones, among others. Many of the coaches that have joined Saban’s Alabama coaching staffs have gone on to successfully rehab their image and have gone on to promotions in both the NFL and college football.

Stoops served as Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator from 2012 until last season, when Lincoln Riley made the decision to fire his DC midway into the season. Stoops has also previously served as Arizona’s head coach. Also of interest to SEC fans, he is the brother of Kentucky head coach, Mark Stoops, and former Oklahoma head coach, Bob Stoops.

Now that he is out of the Big 12 and has access to real defensive Athletes. He should do fine.

He would probably do fine in the SEC.

Not having to face Big 12 offenses every week will be a godsend for him.

If Clemson’s offense gave Bama problems before, imagine the scores with his contribution to the game plan

Well, Clemson's defensive coordinator is one they fired for sucking before him, so I think people can get better in time. But I figure he will probably learn more than he contributes.

Venables didn't get fired from Oklahoma. He resigned.

Is that semantics? Because I could have sworn he was replaced by Stoops.

It was a sticky situation. Mike got fired from Arizona and his brother brought him in as CO-DC. Not sure if that was nepotism or demotion, either way Venrables thought it was best to move on

That’s actually false, but okay.
