Mississppi Delta Blues on record

Freddie Spruell....starts with his 1926 recordings, some debate about was he from Miss, oh well!
Rube Lacy......was going to drive to Bakersfield in search of the old guy, meet an old bluesman (preacher) he died before I did.
Tommy Johnson
Ishman Bracey
Rosa Lee Moore
Charlie McCoy
Charlie Taylor
Bo Carter
Charley Patton
Son House
Willie Brown
Lucille Johnson....piano playing woman, rare
Geehie Wiley
Bukka White
Elvie Thomas
Bo Carter
Mississippi Sheiks
Kid Bailey
Arthur Pettis
Mattie Delaney
Otto Virgial
Johnnie Temple
Big Joe Williams
Robert Johnson 1936
Tommy McClennen
Robert Petway
Robert Lockwood
Muddy Waters 1941

Everyone there recorded prior to 1942, they are the roots to the tree when it comes to them Delta blues. Now some like to include the Memphis players. Not me.

The picture is Ishman Bracey, so...???

The first Delta blues according to the historians.

Mississippi John Hurt not from the Delta and neither was Skip James.

The roots to the tree, it all started right here as far as recorded African American goes.

Obviously early jazz and blues is what African Americans first gave us on record. Talking pre 1940's

Louis Armstrong
Cab Calloway
Bessie Smith
Ma Rainey
Blind Lemon Jefferson
Charley Patton................strange mix
Robert Johnson......not during his life time.
Leroy Carr
Lead Belly
Memphis Minnie
Big Bill Broonzy

.......some of the African American "stars" pre 1940.
Love old jazz as well as Caribbean music and most reggae. Love Marley.

If I thought I wouldn't be killed in about 6 seconds, I'd love to go to the Apollo Theatre!!!!!

I;m with you love all that stuff. I own the James Brown At The Apollo record, the album cover on my wall. If you went in with a black buddy it would work.
