Let’s look at his big moves first.

Marshon Lattimore trade- 2025 third and fourth round picks. I would say everybody can agree…HUGE MISTAKE

Laremy Tunsil trade- 2025 third and seventh plus 2026 second. While he played well, better than he ever has, we won five games in his first season, he signed the largest contract for OL in history, then he got hurt before his second season started and wont play this season. This also held Brandon Coleman back from valuable experience and he has proven to be at least a decent LT. I call this a HUGE MISTAKE but I am sure some of you disagree.

Deebo Samuel trade- we gave up a fifth and spent 17.5 million. Sorry but that is a bust. You do not give up a pick for a one year rental unless you are a one year rental away.

Javon Kinlaw for 3 years and 45 million. At this point, a bad signing.

2026 is a wait and see but I do like this class of FAs far more. I do believe Oweh was a large overpay. But this class of FAs was not the old tired class Peters had the first two seasons. This is the part you guys seem to all to forgiving of. Adam Peters created a very old and tired team his first two seasons. So we need to stop making excuses for him and still blame RR. RR sucked but AP is making his own mistakes.

From there, AP hired DQ, who proceeded to bring in KK and Whitt. Whitt was atrocious from the get go and got relieved of play calling before year 2. KK was figured out, which we all knew he would be, and is out of football currently.

Can't say I disagree with much with the exception of Tunsil. Line is a shadow of itself after he went down. I give the man his respect, he earned it.

Now onto the draft…just top three rounds because that is what you can’t afford to screw up.

2024-
1 (2)- JD, the pick he could not do anything else on. His only saving grace.
2 (36)- Johnny Newton. We could have taken Fiske, same position 3 picks later. We could have taken Cooper DeJean 4 picks later.
2 (50)- Mikey. Could have been Zach Frazier but we chose **** which was fine.
2 (53)- Sinnott. Could have been Javon Bullard or a number of OL.
3 (67)- BC. I think I like this pick more than AP because I would not have made the dumb ass trade.
3 (100)- Luke. Troy Franklin 2 picks later…all I am going to say.

2025
1 (29)- Josh Conerly. Don’t mind the pick but I would have gone Simmons if I went OT. Could have had Emmanoiri or Treyveon
2 (61)- Amos- Love the pick but unfortunately can’t get healthy.

2026
1 (7)- SS…huge fan and I like the pick but if Caleb Downs ends up being what many believe, questions.
3 (71)- Antonio Williams- yeah I like this pick.

BC has been good. The OL went bad when Allegretti went down. You can’t forgive the trade when at least three of us stated what would happen considering age.

Pretty much summarizes my feelings on AP. I’m disappointed. I was high on him when he came over from SF. I think he got caught, like many of us fans, in believing we had a championship caliber team after 2024. But he is the professional and should have known better. Now, given the lack of talent in key areas, I don’t see us winning more than 3-4 games this year. And if JD gets injured, which I expect he will given the status of our OLine, we may not win a game. I won’t be surprised if we go into 2027 with both a new GM and HC. Starting over. Again.

The 2024 draft class consisted of Saquon, King Henry, Zach Baun, Xavier McKinney, Danielle Hunter, Jonathan Greenard, Josh Jacobs, Poona Ford, Brandon Jones, Kevin Byard, John Simpson, Kristian Fulton, and Aaron Brewer.
This is a great example of what I'm referring to in the piece. Washington, historically doesn't shop in places where you get these sort of players. So here's the example from that draft...

Holding the No. 40 pick to start Day 2, Washington traded with the Philadelphia Eagles to add top-60 capital. Per the FOX Sports Trade Tracker, they sent picks 40, 78, and 152 in exchange for picks 50, 53, and 161, successfully landing Sainristil, Sinnott, and Hampton.

Who did the Eagles get with those picks

The Philadelphia Eagles used the main pick acquired from the Commanders (No. 40 overall) to select Iowa defensive back Cooper Dejean.
The exact utilization of the three assets they received is detailed below:
  • Pick 40 (Round 2): Selected Cooper DeJean, DB, Iowa.
  • Pick 78 (Round 3): Traded to the Houston Texans. The Eagles flipped this pick to accumulate more capital, eventually package-trading down to select edge rusher Jalyx Hunt at pick 94.
  • Pick 152 (Round 5): Selected Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M.

... And what did they do with the trade down of pick 78? ( round 3)

When the Philadelphia Eagles flipped the No. 78 overall pick to the Houston Texans, they received two selections in return: a third-round pick (No. 86) and a fourth-round pick (No. 123).
Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman then continued to trade both of those assets later in the draft:
  • Flipping Pick 86: The Eagles immediately traded this selection to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for pick No. 94 (which they used to select edge rusher Jalyx Hunt) and pick No. 132.
  • Flipping Pick 123: The Eagles traded this asset back to the Houston Texans on Day 3 in exchange for pick No. 127 (used to select running back Will Shipley) and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
... and that 2025 fifth round pick?

The Philadelphia Eagles kept that 2025 fifth-round pick (No. 161 overall) and used it to select Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon Jr in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The pick remained a fixed asset through their various trades, allowing General Manager Howie Roseman to secure defensive depth directly derived from that original 2024 draft-day trade sequence with the Commanders.

I have taken you off ignore as you are providing excellent insight and I see you started the Wizards thread.

Apologies for my role in the argument and apologies for any insults/attacks.

This post is very spot on. I hope you will post here more.

You are correct and I agree with your observations.

The 2026 free agent class needs to move mountains if he is going to stick around. The drafting has been unacceptable but I honestly feel the 2026 free agency class might be the first good series of decisions AP has made in an offseason. We will see of course. I am frustrated with the Center position and poor CB strategy.

This might prove controversial but if the Commanders by some miracle goes undefeated in 2026, AP will still have to consider replacing Quinn!

Let’s be fair , I have criticized AP on every trade he has made , I have pointed out he overdrafted at least half of his top 100 picks in the first draft .

I criticize going all in last year with stop gap signings and poor trades ? Now I know damn good and well the argument was made that you HAD to go ALL. In last season . You all know who you are so I don’t need to call you out if you are being fair .

In 24,AP was simply trying to put together a competitive roster . I won’t bust him for that but I have and will bust him for totally misreading what kind of team we REALLY had for 25 . It looks like he has learned from this with the draft. And free agency period we had this off season .

You have to pay Qb and his weapons and key protectors You have to value and hoard draft picks . You must keep the defense young Cheap and fast and that’s why the draft means a lot . Limit dead cap space

Last year set us back a year . This year is really yr 2 of the rebuild

But mark my words the next flavor of the day player we will have to trade for or overpay for will be first and foremost will be advocated for as you won’t let the process play out

The 2025 free agency class was inexcusable IMO. I have no idea what he was thinking or why he did what he did.

The drafting has been bad of course.

I want a hard stop on trades as not one of them have really worked out IMO. I know people disagree with that but the facts prove otherwise.

The problem is that the cap space is about to go bye bye as we have to save up cash to pay JD5. Will we have the pieces in place to surround him?

i would say his drafting is about 50/50

hit on JD5 , hit on BC , mikey is a starter for 2 years (low end ) luke and sinnott were over drafted , maggee was a hit , and JPB is a hit 24 draft. hamilton was a wash out

25 draft connerly is a hit , amos is a hit ( he has a sprained ankle , , lane is a hit , medrano is a st /project ( exactly what 6th rounders are ) and Bill is a hit going into yr 2 remember to fairly judge a draft class it 3 yrs

26 draft Styles is a hit early williams is a hit early joseph is a hit early allen appears to be a good 6th round pick and AK16 in round 7 appears to be a hit
