Funny Joe i just stumbled onto this forum minutes after sending a pm to Bandit and Treff to talk about Mack's value (a player on the list above)

and imho a great list and very interesting question raised

and for some one to dis the list as nothing cmon appreciate the time, thought and effort put forth here...
Yep. The list IS worth something. Especially if you know a thing or three about human anatomy and function.:2cents:

Michael Crabtree is worthy of the list.
After his injury he played in 78 games, had 3870 yards and 32 TD.
While this is encouraging in relation to Cam Akers, we have historically seen that RB do not come back as well.

Wouod argue that while crabtree did return. He was bot the same player.

Thats basically 50 yards a game.

yup, I think you have to compare positions within themselves - the demands on the body are different between RB/WR/TE/OL/etc

Also the amount of players…theres usually one rb getting the rock. You gotta be the best. Offensively they may trot out 5 wide…you can serve a role not being what you once were. Granted i know theres short yardage specialists and pass catching rbs but you get my point.

Also can we not do the…well 1 or 2 guys made it back thing? Yea theres always isolated incidents. Somewhere someone chewed bubble gum and beat heart disease im sure…but its not the norm.

Thats not directed at anyone fyi.

In his defense, post Achilles, he did have a 900 yard season followed by a 1000 yard season. Not too shabby. Then he fell off the fantasy map.

Crabby was an odd duck. Even before the injury he was definitely good, but I'm not sure he had star or elite, whatever word you wanna use, qualities. One of the better receivers in the league? Sure. But he was much more Keyshawn Johnson, than say Terrel Owens or Reggie Wayne..or even an Amari Cooper.

As it pertains to this thread, it'd take some sports medicine expert, or whatever who understands the science of what muscles and tendons do what and the variables are between a RB vs a WR, or position X, whatever, need to have working perfectly in order to succeed, but history definitely tells the story that whatever it is that a RB loses after an achillies injury affects them more so than most every other position.

I can agree with this assessment. I was always super high on him. But you are right he did disappoint some.

All the prominent sports medicine docs will “say” they can recover, because everyone wants their work to be top notch. Sure they can, but its unlikely, and the literature backs that up. They absolutely will recover , and be functional. But those terms arent what makes an elite athlete. Again not a shot at you. Im just tacking on to the conversation. Many times when a doctor says someone will recover that doesnt always mean they will be 100% like they were prior.

When the NFLPA started pussifying pre-season training, players began showing up for actual games out of condition. I started noticing lower body injuries after that. I'm afraid that the emphasis on bulk and raw strength has made guys spend too much time in the weight room and not enough time stretching and maintaining flexibility.

Anything to back up that they arent focusing on flexibility?

Oh fer sure, I think we basically said the same thing in different terms, more or less

Well I certainly have no statistics to back me up, but just based on observation, it does SEEM that there's more injuries related to that going on lately, especially early in the season. And I would attribute that, in part at least, to a shortened, less physical preseason. But again, that's just what I think I'm observing, I could be dead wrong

Perhaps. Thats also something you can make a somewhat of a correlation to, not a hard correlation by any means. But less pre season is vastly different than less focus on stretching and flexibility. Seems like a large assumption.

Foreman and Akers seem to be coming back nicely. Some new procedure? Or is this a matter of, "Let's see how they hold up over the course of an entire season." thing?

I think what I am seeing is that if you are young enough, you can come back from it.

28 or older?

It is probably a wrap.

Foreman has been serviceable, lets not get too crazy about him. He'll be a UFA for '22, and I highly doubt anyone is going to be beating his door down or blowing up his phone. And lets not forget, he blew his achillies in '17, he's now into year #4 of the aftermath. This was the second year he was available for the entire year, and he was more or less jobless until Henry went down, despite being on the TItans roster for parts of '20.

Akers has shown me nothing to say he's back "okay". Outside of his one catch, he's been sub pedestrian in his return thus far.

I'll always keep an open mind, especially when it comes to medical advances in procedures and rehab, but Achilles tears on RB's, and patellar tendon tears on virtually anyone, are always gonna give me a "prove it" type feeling. Foreman is close to "proving it" to me...4 years later, no one else has

Might disagree with you on Akers. No tougher of a matchup than playoff football imo. Akers has been running hard when his number is called. He could be a nice asset in 2022.

Kudos to @Payton for remembering this thread.

Now if they could just fix Aikers Hand Achilles they would be on to something. But IMO he has looked pretty quick to me. The catch and the other target he had last week (Staff under threw him a tad) he looked fast to me. He hasn't had a lot of running room either week. That said, if he can't stop fumbling it will be back to Sony............
