And the Thunder got Gary Payton, Kevin Garnett, Kevin Durant, and Chet at #2, Harden at #3 and Xavier McDaniel and Westbrook at #4. Must be nice getting into the Top-4 all the time.

You are talking about the SuperSonics with a lot of that, the Thunder do not claim that history. How many teams would have taken Harden at 3 and Westbrook at 4? That’s more of your issue.

You're ignoring the multiple years where we were screwed when we had the worst team in the league and, not only didn't get the top pick, we couldn't even get in the Top 3. Got 5th in the 2024 draft (meh), 5th in the Wemby draft, AND 5th in the Paolo/Chet/Jabari draft...we didn't get a chance at any of those and had to settle on Ivey who's off the team now.

So, yeah, we got Cade in the lottery and the NBA made us pay the next three years with lottery screwjobs. Heaven forbid we get the #1 pick more than once every three decades.

I am not ignoring that.

I think the lottery is a horrible system. The worst teams should get the best picks.

But look at this year. Why should a solid team like the pacers that intentionally kept guys out much longer than needed be awarded the top pick

The Pacers O/U win total was set at 37.5

They are not this bad lol they did things to make sure they're in this position

If you hit the top in a bad lotto year you get punished.

Ok. That happens every once in a awhile.

Pretty rare actually.

Teams like the Pacers are far more likely to get a top pick because they hit low odds in the back half of the lottery

Otherwise, it's nonsense that a Thunder fan would be whining about a lack of high picks when they've gotten so many already in such a short time.

I don't care what they "claim." They're the same team and the same history. Go to basketballrec and they lump the two teams together like any reasonable person would. And, like I said, the only way to even compare them to the Pistons is to include their longer history, otherwise it's a terrible comparison in general.

Agreed. It doesn't stop tanking at all and leaves the door open for all sorts of shady dealings by this league to hand draft picks to whoever it wants. In the end, it still goes to undeserving teams like Dallas last year. The NFL has a normal draft and no one has any issues with tanking there and it has more parity than anyone. The lottery doesn't even solve the problem is was invented to stop so there's no point to it. If you want to have rules where teams can't get consecutive #1 picks or something, that's fine, but otherwise enough of the "random" lottery that often finds a way to screw the small-market teams.

Bro, the Thunder didn't exist when Gary Payton played and Kevin Garnett was drafted by the T-Wolves and never played for either franchise. It might be reasonable if the ownership stayed the same, but it didn't.

Plus it was announced when the team moved that if Seattle ever got another team that the history would revert back there. The Thunder have never used any of that stuff.

Maybe. Problem is, it's not like the Lakers leaving Minnesota and taking the name, etc. with them.

As @thunderc points out, the Thunder have not kept or claimed any of that history. Seattle will be like the Browns where all of the history, the name, the colors, etc. gets "revived" (for lack of a better term) with the "new" team.

Anyone seeing these proposals? They ALL involve playoff teams now being in the lottery. This is insane and will just make the lottery rigging even worse as the league continues to enrich the most hyped teams even if they make the playoffs.

And these people get paid to come up with this stuff. No wonder the rule changes are a constant mess. They're going to butcher every part of the draft and it's still not going to stop tanking. And of course the owners will love it. What a surprise.

Meh, maybe at one time. They are their own brand now. As I said in another post, they will be like the Browns. I don't think folks consider the Ravens to just be the Browns rebranded.
