Just eliminate pick protections on draft picks that get traded. Teams are tanking just as much to keep their picks as they are to increase lottery odds. I just read that both Washington and Utah have top 8 protected picks this year so they for sure will finish bottom 8.

Not much harm in getting rid of those. You give up a pick, it might be a great one it might not be. You trade for a pick, same deal. It becomes part of the calculus of the trade, where you think the team will be when the pick happens.

What’s the downside, can’t really think of one

Just eliminate trades altogether. Quit subsidizing teams that aren’t patient and can’t develop players. I got all kinds of outrageous ideas.

That's nice but this thread is about an easy, not outrageous idea

The vast majority of which you should keep to yourself.

I like the idea of outrageous ideas.

I gotta couple.

One of them is fuckin' up the Lakers. I'd start by making Jimmy Buss GM. What could go wrong with that? :noidea:

I hear he's available...Celtics have any openings?

Celtics already gotta replacement for Stevens...

Lavar Ball :gaah:

Lavar? Shit, that should get you at least 5 straight titles.

It'll be the 60's all over again.

How do you codify it though. How do you define tanking for the purpose of a fine?

You simply have to remove the incentives to tank so only a couple teams do it instead of 10

And ending pick protections is a good start

How about making the lottery public?

It is public. There are reporters and others there watching it.

You can't possibly believe they rig it...why would the owners allow it?

Also, that has nothing to do with tanking.

How's this for an idea. Relegation. You don't make the playoffs for 5 years in a row, the whole team gets relegated to the CBA. I love it!

I have said it seems like a thousand times.

But it is so plainly obvious.

Take away the lottery.

2 or 3 teams tanking away at the bottom is not that big a deal.

7 or 8 teams tanking absolutely is.

Taking away the lottery removes the incentive for teams outside the true bottom to really tank. And it also allows the worst of the worst to actually get a cornerstone player to build around.

You won’t see teams repeatedly tanking year after year if you actually let the worst teams get the best picks.

Exactly...not sure why that seems like such a difficult concept. Teams that otherwise wouldn't be tanking are tanking because they still have a small chance to win the lottery and even if they don't get the #1 pick, there's still a decent chance they'll get a better pick than they would without the lottery.

The point of the lottery was to curb tanking, but it has only made it worse.

No

You’re just making less trades

It’s a bad idea

Let teams do what they want

Lottery tournament is the easy one

With league awards requirements to be able to play and no resting shenanigans or fake injuries like sga and Robinson for their tanking years

Dude is an absolute inept clown

Let's start with voiding all the trades that built the current Thunder roster. Sounds fair....
