WatchStadium: "ADs Overwhelmingly Favor Expanded College Football Playoff ":

Brett McMurphy said:
A whopping 88 percent of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) athletic directors want an expanded College Football Playoff when the current playoff contract ends after the 2025 regular season, according to a survey conducted by Stadium.

Brett McMurphy said:
Of those athletic directors who favor an expanded playoff, 72 percent believe eight teams should qualify. Also, 66 percent of the ADs said the highest-ranked non-Power Five team should receive an automatic bid to an expanded playoff.

As soon as they announced the initial playoff, this was always the end goal. Get people OK with the idea of a playoff, one with serious flaws, and then use those flaws to expand beyond that. Think about it, our system has 4 spots for 5 P5 conferences and the G5. The math doesn't add up. I think the next move is 6-8 spots and maybe auto-bids for conference champs in the P5.

I'd be more interested in the % of University presidents who support expansion.

Exactly. P5 champs in. Any other unbeatens in. Then add any additional
at large. Every team controls its destiny, and if you don’t make it, you have only yourself to blame.

Of course they do for money purposes, this will make an even weaker product if they do expand it.

Hey dumbass,

Why don't we wait until we get four teams that are actually worthy of being in the playoff because to date that hasn't happened? I'm not interested in adding more shitty games to the playoffs let them play those in the bowls.

4 team format works and until it doesn't no need to change.

2014/15- 2 of 3 were blowouts/boring
2015/16- 2 of 3 were blowouts/boring
2016/17- 2 of 3 were blowouts/boring
2017/18- 1 of 3 were blowouts/boring
2018/19- 2 of 3 were blowouts/boring
2019/20- 1 of 3 were blowouts/boring

So 8 entertaining games in 6 years, so barely over half the games have been entertaining. Why would we add more? So undeserving teams can ‘have a chance’ . Pass.

Expand...take only conference champions. I believe the current system has hurt the once loved New Years Day traditions. Heck, I would rather go back to the old style bowl games than continue the 4-team playoff.

Why should a mediocre conference champ that hasn’t earned their keep be gifted an auto-bid?

that there's 5 P5 conferences and only 4 spots. By design, the conferences could all produce an undefeated team and one of them would miss out on a spot. That's a dumb "solution" to the BCS.

But they won’t, because that has never happened.

Also, the BCS doesn’t exist.

Worked out so far. Idk if I'm ready to water down the regular season just for the small chance of 5 teams going undefeated

Personally....

1. I enjoy more football games.
2. Winning your conference should matter.
3. Upsets like Boise St over OU, UCF over Auburn (in my opinion) is what makes the idea of an expanded playoff amazing. Is it likely to happen often, no, but it is infinitely more likely to happen than it is now. Hell, for that reason alone, I would prefer a 16 team playoff. Shit, I think 64 would be hilariously amazing, but whatever, I acknowledge that 8 is pretty good and 16 is more than solid.
4. We see blowouts every year, what difference does it make at what point in the year they happen so long as that chance of the upset exists for a Boise St to beat an OU. Blow outs happened in many national title and major bowl games prior to the playoff too. Some of ya'll use this as an excuse as if blow outs are a brand new thing, get over yourself. These 'purists' can fuck off with their nonsense. It reeks of a pathetic superiority complex, a.k.a. scared of losing to a G5 team.
5. G5 teams deserve a chance to play for something.
6. Deserving is so subjective. Two of Alabamas national titles this decade came from teams that didn't win their division let alone their conference but were given an opportunity to seize the moment - which they did. Alabama was essentially given 'the benefit of the doubt' which is literally favoritism. I am not bashing Alabama when saying this, just stating a fact.

But that's me. Bring on the whining haters....

Money move. OU vs LSU didn't help their cause.
Yeah, there have been several lopsided CFP semifinal games. I'd expect to see some lopsided CFP quarterfinal games as well.

All that said, we've also seen several very lopsided CCGs in the CFP era as well. Bigger routs than some of the CFP semi slaughters...and I don't see any cries to eliminate CCG because there could be some routs. As long as they make money, they'll tolerate routs.

Some CCG routs that stand out are:

'14 Ohio State 59 Wisconsin 0
'14 Alabama 42 Mizzou 13
'14 Oregon 51 Arizona 13
'16 Washington 41 Colorado 10
'17 Clemson 38 Miaimi 3
'17 Oklahoma 41 TCU 17
'18 Clemson 42 Pitt 10

Prior to the CFP I remember Wisconsin beating Nebraska something like 70-30 in the B1G CCG one year. Sorry Husker fans but it was a crummy CCG I remember.

8 teams is exactly what it should be. Fuck the power 5 conferences. If your good enough you'll be chosen in the final 8 teams. Even the power 5 have off years.

Is expansion the only way the Big12 finds a way to win a playoff game?
