Barely watched.

1) Saw Roupp do pretty well, but he gave up too many walks. How to fix that?

2) Winn, of course, gave up a walk to the first batter he faced. I went back last night through every game of Winn's this season. He has allowed the first hitter he faced to reach base 17 time out of 41 (.415). He has allowed the first batter faced to reach base the last five appearances, and 8 of the last 10. HBP-Single-Single-out-K-HBP-Single-Double-Single-Walk

3) Once again, in the 7th, a single to LF, the Giants' LF throws to the cutoff man and the hitter strolls into 2nd. There was NO chance of getting the out at home, he was halfway home when the ball was fielded. WTF are the coaches telling these players? Is it coaching? Stupidity? Lack of attention. Of course, that just opened the floodgates and Harris allowed 6 runs in his ML debut.

I know there will be more games like this, but I see no progress in the pitchers nor hitters. After the Tiggers got a run, Goo Bear came up and had a 2-0 count, then swung at a bad pitch and grounded weakly to 2nd. He seemingly swore at himself, could hear it on the broadcast. As if someone ELSE was to blame for his stupid approach at the plate.

I can"t ever speak for a professional athlete but as a person that has always been involved in some sort of organized sports fot 60 years or more I can relate to the behavior we are seeing. Also been guilty of it I'm sure.
Playing for a team that falls totally out of contention tends to change the way you view the game. At tis point wins and losses have little or no meaning to you unless you are directly responsible for the win or the loss. Pitchers and goal tenders come to mind. But, for most players in this position it becomes much more personal for them. It is now more of an individual event rather than a team event. Wins and losses may not mean much of anything to them any more. How they are represented in the box score does..How they appear to themselves becomes really important. Much rather see a hit than a walk in the boxscore. I just think that this team has moved into that space. They are now playing for their own achievements rather than for a team oriented success.

Just ny thoughts ...

But Roupp’s reaction was almost Divars-level. He just walked 3 consecutive batters. Then he demonstrates ON THE MOUND that he isn’t leaving the game. Then he SHOWS UP his teammate AND manager when the next batter is walked.

Mistakes happen, and I am willing to just move on from this as a boiling point in a bad game in a bad season. But it was noticed. TV does not have the respect of the players in that locker room. That would not happen to Bochy (with the player surviving, at least — see Casilla, Santiago as a prime example).

Hiring TV to manage in the MLB was a HUGE mistake. But I am not sure the Giants can afford to correct that mistake right now (before the end of next season). If you are going to hire a guy like TV, you HAVE to give him AT LEAST 2 seasons to find his footing.
