They were told that Wallace wants more than Fitzgerald in his contract.

That is why no team has tried to sign him this season. Its not the 1st round pick. It is the fact that Wallace thinks he is worth way more than he is.

Checking in on Wallace
9:08AM ET
Mike Wallace | Steelers | Interested: 49ers?, Broncos?, Bengals? TopEmailCommentsEntering this offseason, one of the big questions on everyone's mind was whether the Pittsburgh Steelers would use their franchise tag on WR Mike Wallace instead of the RFA tender system. If the decision was made to go with the latter option, Pittsburgh would be in danger of losing Wallace if another team devised an offer sheet that the Steelers wouldn't or couldn't match. Thus far, there's been a lot of speculation on which teams could make such an offer, but no actual offers yet. Based upon a report from Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, we can understand why there haven't been any offer sheets posted yet.

A league source has revealed to Barrows that Wallace wants a contract that goes above the one Larry Fitzgerald most recently received: an eight-year, $120 million pact signed with the Arizona Cardinals last season.

So, to review: if another team -- say, the Broncos, 49ers, Ravens, Bengals or Patriots -- wants Wallace, they have to offer him a cap-busting deal along the lines of the ones recently doled out to Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson and they have to surrender their first-round pick in this year's draft as well. It's easier to understand now why things have been so quiet on the Wallace front this offseason.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of value Wallace places upon himself heading into next offseason's negotiations with the Steelers, as at that time the team will be deciding between the franchise tag and unrestricted free agency for the WR. But as it stands right now, his salary expectations are a little unrealistic:

Jamison Hensley
He's not quite on that level just yet

"It seems crazy that Wallace would make such a demand. He's had two 1,000-yard seasons and went to one Pro Bowl. Fitzgerald has produced six 1,000-yard seasons and has gone to six Pro Bowls. As I proposed last week, Wallace's worth should be between the contracts given to Vincent Jackson (five-year, $55.5 million deal that includes $26 million guaranteed) and DeSean Jackson (five years, maximum value of $51 million, including $15 million guaranteed). No one is going to put Wallace in the same category as Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson."

wow.... just wow....

Wallace can't hold Fitz's jock.

Agreed. His demands are laughable. Maybe he made this ridiculous demand, because he really wants to stay in Pittsburgh.

Piss away a 1st round pick AND give him a ridiculous contract. Yeah right.....

Not worth that at all. Gonna need more than 72 catches to get paid like Fitzgerald.

Let him stay in Pittsburgh. He's not Fitz or Megatron. No one in their right mind will pay that absurd amount.

Reality will strike next off-season when he's an unrestricted free agent. NOBODY is gonna give him that much coin.

wallace is crazy if he wants that amount .. the rooneys would never ever pay him that

Because the Rooney's are smart owners. Somebody is gonna pay him more than he's worth and then he is gonna see what it's like to be in an organization with owners who make those kind of decisions.

Enjoy your Redskins Wallace.

To piggyback to what you are saying, he'll end up firing his agent because his agent failed to negotiate and execute a 7-year $132M contract for him. Some people are just delusional.

I would say that nobody would pay that... but I'd be lying because Dan Snyder is still running the Redskins.

You'd think he'd figure it out sooner or later. Look at this laundry list of irrelevance:

Deion Sanders (past his prime time).
Donovan McNabb.
Andre Carter (who is hot and cold in small glimpses, and very average the rest of the year).
Haynesworth.
Traded for Lloyd, who was all but out of the league at that point.
Traded Bailey for Portis. Seriously, who trades an all world CB for a Denver RB?
Santana Moss
Antwan Randle-El
Bruce Smith (in his twilight)
Jeff George
Jeremiah Trotter
Shane Matthews
Rob Johnson
David Patterson
Pierson Prioleau
Adam Archuleta
Fred Smoot

And in 2010 alone:
Larry Johnson
Willie Parker
Rex Grossman
Phillip Buchanon
Ma'ake Kemoeatu
Vonnie Holliday
Joey Galloway
Bobby Wade
(And about 10 others I don't even recognize)

Danny boy, you need to allow for some continuity. I'd be willing to bet half the team doesn't know the names of at least five of their teammates at the end of the season in that lockerroom.
