Lance will start so at least it will be interesting to see what he does. I have a feeling the defense is going to try to come up big to make up for Lance at QB. I have a feeling they will keep it close for 3 and a half quarters before falling apart at the end.
Cardinals - 33
49ers - 20

Over under for turnovers created by the 49ers in this one is 0.5 The smart money is taking the under.

Yea, the defense--particularly the pass rush--has to wake up. If the whole season goes like this, we'll be looking for a new DC and Ryans will be looking for work.

Right now, AZ could be the best team in the division. We're giving a rookie his first start much earlier than we wanted, we're still starting our 4th string RB, and our D just can't put it together. I don't see any way we win this one

They'll be competitive on Sunday, they always are; they just have to learn how to win.

Win with turnovers and timely penalties. :-)

Both the offense and defense (pass rush) needs to play better. But this being Lance's first start, won't be surprising if the offense struggles again? Not Lance's fault, more on timing.

Unfortunately, our pass rushers are undisciplined and that's why they struggle against mobile QBs.

The ball made the endzone. That should be a Trey Lance TD. The hit is right on the goal line. He even fell into the pylon.

Our defensive backs should learn how to tackle. They've blown multiple chances now to make big stops.

Defense can't step up when needed and Shanahan calling the game like he's playing Madden. Those 4th down calls were terrible and some of those should have been a punt or FG.

Lance showed a couple good things but his passing is terrible. He winds up to throw like Fernando Valenzuela and his throws sail so high he's always going to have a lot of picks. That windup caused a lot of tipped passes at the line because they had plenty of time to see where he was going with the ball. The D stepped up pretty nicely and did a good job of containment for the first time this season. The constant failure on 4th down and Shanahan's ridiculous play calling cost them this one.

I am wondering :hmm: If the Niners are going to be a 7&9 to 8&8 team and get a new head coach. Lance has very little high level game experience but I am not encouraged at this point, that he won't be a complete QB. Of course if the team didn't have these year ending injuries and game missing injuries, would be they would be good but even then have some Dobts (Doubts from another message board LOL). If things go out of control maybe another high draft pick but didn't we trade some of those for this year? :(

That’s going to be tough to do since they play 17 games;)

Lance played fine for a Rookie QB making their first Start. Shanahan did him no favors though by putting so much of the offense on him. Elijah Mitchel was back and running well yet we barely ran the ball.
He did ok. Maybe about like a bottom 1/3 of the league QB. Shanahan was awful as usual

When your defense gives up 17 points, you're supposed to win in today's NFL.

It was understandable for Lance to play so-so, but apparently the O-line is inconsistent?

WTH was that?

Piss poor playcalling.
1st--what was with all the QB running plays? I get calling a few to surprise the defense, but that was a recipe for getting the QB injured.
2nd--Mitchell was back and effective, so one would think that the offense would lean on the running game, but instead Lance got more called run plays than the Mitchell?
3rd--kick the effin FG, Cotton! Missing on one 4th down is one thing, but going for it 4 times seems like Shanny was trying to lose the game.

I get Lance struggling against in his first start--on the road, good pass rush, inconsistent OL, etc. I even get his first pass sailing--not like it's the first time we've seen a young QB come out overeager and too cranked up. Still, the game seemed a step too fast for him. I do NOT think Shanny did him any favors calling all those QB running plays.

The defense has its best performance and the offense basically died. Shanny is supposed to be an offensive guru, but that was embarrassing for anyone and particularly so for him. If this was Shanny's way of showing people that Lance isn't ready yet, fine, but that means he should've been the 3rd QB instead of the primary backup for an injury-prone Grop.

Our OL couldn't get through a 3 play span without committing a false start or holding penalty. That has to be cleared up if we want to win anything.

If Grop was 2-3 going into the bye, like we are now, there would be calls for Trey to start at home against Indy after the bye. Yet, Shanny has said so far, that nothing has changed at QB.

Shanny does not have ot worry about his job. He's under contract through 2025. So he's safe this year and almost certainly next year too. That was part of the reason he and Lynch felt safe enough to trade everything to move up for Lance. Notice that what I said was that SHANNY is safe for at least a couple more years, but I dont' think the same could be said for Lynch, who could quietly be moved elsewhere in the FO and a new GM promoted/hired so that HC-Shanny can do his job without worrying so much about being GM-Shanny.
