We waived him for a guy that was on the roster for about 20 hours. Hmmmm.

And so far the guy with the 8 era looks like Cy Young.

Nice job picking up the bullpen, guys.

Pretty incredible job by the pen this game and all season.

Get some insurance so 1 mistake doesn't cost the game!

The chance of 6 or 7 relievers being perfect on the same night is very little. No office killed it again tonight.

One thing over the years I have noticed is Haniger is much better coming in on balls vs going back on them.

Horrible AB by Trammell in the 8th. The guy walks Murphy on 4 pitches then throws the next 3 pitches to Trammell for balls. He takes a strike and grounds into a force on the next pitch down by 4. Make him show he can throw 3 straight strikes after throwing 7 straight balls. Ug!

Good news is we are now up to 3 hits through 8. We average 6.5 through 30 games.

I watched most of last nights game and there are two very simple thoughts.

1. I don't think I've seen a game where there were so many just low 90s middle of the plate fastballs either missed or taken. I do feel like it happens a lot with this team but the dude that was pitching last night should have given up 7 runs. He wasnt good at all but I had to listen to ROOT's bullshit saying he was locating well which was crap. His curve was nothing special and rarely did anything but hit the dirt. Should have been easy enough to just hunt the low 90s fastball. And I think a year of watching Moore and Marmelejos is gonna drive me to insanity.

2. Bullpen games rarely work. Unnecessary bullpen games are even worse. The 6 man rotation thing was good in theory given what they had to start the year but when you have 3 guys go down and cant replace them, I dont see the purpose of creating an extra hole on your team. This team has enough holes in its lineup, why create a hole in the rotation when you can just roll back to a 5 man rotation. All it takes is one pitcher to have an off night out of six or seven guys which is highly likely and then 7 innings of good pitching goes down the drain.

Whatever I guess this all comes back to refusing to put any money into the team at this point.

Yea you may as well get used to the not spending money part as the Mariners are unlikely to ever make a real attempt ( with the check book ) at fielding a championship contending team. Being profitable is their #1 goal, winning is #2.

The Mariners woes of 2021 boils down to single stat line: a 207 team batting avg ( 2nd worst in all of MLB - 30 teams ).
the entire 9 man line-up is a 'weak spot' and no opposing pitcher has any concern whatsoever about men on base, even when facing the heart of the Ms batting order.

Its a 'rebuilding year ... just like 2022 and 2023 and all subsequent years. Yea they will show some sparks of life and play some stretches of games like a legit contender and even make a run of 13-2 to start a season like a couple years ago. But the MLB season is 162 games and the cream always rises to the top and the non compete teams fall to the basement of various divisions to only dream about 'next year'.

Love them or hate them, they are our team and I support and believe in them, but have realistic expectations as to what I truly believe can and will happen moving forward.

Kelenic will be a nice shot in the arm most likely around the all star break. He will mash the ball for a few years as a Mariner and then go to the highest bidder around 5-6 years down the road. He will constantly be pitched around by opposing pitchers as 1 single legit hitter in a line-up of .225 hitters is no threat when you are OK with walking him to 1st after trying to get him to chase balls off the plate as you pitch around him in the line-up. There is not a single Mariners batter you can hit behind him that will keep pitchers honest. Maybe 1-2 yrs down the road Julio Rodriguez is that guy ... we will see.

Nope... I'm tired of worrying about a 6th starter in the rotation... We've lost all the games so far by dinkering around with a 6th guy in the rotation... Doesn't do us any good if we're not going to win any of those games due to our pitcher pitching us out of the game in the 1st inning... I know yesterday was pitcher by committee but come on, this is ridiculous...

I know this might be a radical concept, but swing the bat!
I'm tired of them watching a 1st pitch strike down the middle... You should only take a pitch if you're in Junior High or if your name is Edgar, Ichiro, Tony Gwynn, Pete Rose, Manny, etc...
